    • I don't believe we should be trying go in there and run Syria, but running their country and addressing the use of chemical weapons don't have to be the same thing. Nobody said Assad wasn't going to have some Tomahawks landing on his chemical weapons units.

Such a claim is absent from the Israeli press, Syria (SANA), Western media, or al-Jazeera.

Edit: In addition, Israeli warplanes used 'stand-off' missiles fired from Lebanon. Neither the Lebanese press nor Lebanon's Al-Mayadeen TV have reported any downed IAF aircraft.

            • Gents,

Syria may be a god damn complex awful mess, but what's the cost of letting things spiral?

What if either Hezbollah or the Jihadists get their hands on chemical weapons?
What if Assad falls and the Salafists prevail, gaining control of a sovereign state and wide spread popular support?
What if Assad wins and Iran becomes emboldened by its success, and realizes that a US "Red Line" means zip, let alone "all options are on the table".

IMO, in this case, "complex" means there's still an opportunity to influence the outcome without undue cost. By the time we get to "simple", it could well be a simple, clear cut, catastrophe.

Like how? Iraq and Afghanistan should serve as reminders that there are broadly two types of groups out there in these kinds of conflict zones; those that will openly oppose the US, and those that will suck American money and resource while privately opposing the US. What havent Americans learnt over the past 12 years.

Some Syrians may indeed want the Americans to come in and take out their enemies for them, but thats as far as the welcome goes. Just like what happened in Iraq.

Al-Manar propaganda. Israeli planes didn't go into syrian aerospace.

                  • Why is UN so quite? No-fly zone is the minimum which can be enforced. Most of the civilian death and destruction of property come from aerial bombardment by SAA airforce. Isn't over 75,000 death and 1.2 million displaced enough?

Couldn't agree with you more. I say let ME sort its ME problems. As long as US's allies are not being bombed by Syria, the US should stay away from it. Enough American flags have been burnt with matches and gasoline paid by American dollar.

And by the way, in all this what is Russia doing? If Syrians are serious about hating Assad, let see them burning Putin's effigies. Lets hear of them attacking the Russian base.

                      Stay out of it Obama!

Nope. Most civilian death and destruction of property come from ethnic/religion mass murders and ground assaults of cities.

Nope. Kerry declared doubling of help to insurgents, Turkey cut off water supply of Aleppo, and Israel is helping islamists by attaking Assad forces. They clearly want death toll to rise.

                            • reshaping of mid-east is going to be interesting. I look forward to all new countries poping up as I said before.
                              Kurdistan, Alawaitistan, Druzistan, Shiraq, Suniraq.

Afghan / Pakistan war is going to be interesting once the U.S. leaves the region. A semi-partial civil war if you consider internals.

theres no oil nor any sort of valuable resources in Syria plus lower geo-strategic importance other than creating a corridor to the sea for the upcoming Kurdish State...
