So, in news that wil lsurprise no one Maduro has claimed victory in the election and the opposition are claiming he stole it. They are undoubtedly right. For now they are staging huge protests, hoping the regime will topple this time.

As always at moments like this it will come down to how many people government forces & supporters are willing to kill. If Maduro retains control there will be another wave of refugees into surrounding nations, which might prompt some of them to try exerting pressure/influence. We will see how it pans out.

Importantly this time around none of the neighboring States appear to believe the results are legitimate and are saying so publicly. That could have big repercussions.

If you are emotionally invested in 'believing' something is true you have lost the ability to tell if it is true.

Heard on the radio some army & security troops are switching sides. A drop in the bucket now but it could grow. Still early days.

Everyone is SICK of Venezuela. I work with a Chilean & as one of the more affluent nations in the region they are dealing with a LOT of refugees. So are the poorer nations closer to Venezuela, some of whom might have ideological sympathies with Maduro. Then there is the sabre rattling over Guyana. Way to piss off Brazil.

There is always a 'tipping point' with this stuff. It will take either mass defections or some senior people in the military/security forces/regime deciding Maduro is cooked.

I hope for the sake of Venezuela that enough people desert him & the regime collapses.

Same. Had high school friends from Venezuela. One was killed in 1989 riots...I wonder what has happened to the rest. I know one went in their Army but have lost track of him.
