Go back to an earlier comment I posted. They were filtered out by the computer software...older software at that. Per the Pentagon NORAD adjusted their filters to look for these items. The amount of items over North America daily is in the thousands. They realized after the initial sightings of the Chinese balloon they needed to tweak things.

Will that not also require expansion of the computers required to monitor said same?

Yup. That is why the Administration are looking to fund an expansion of these capabilities in the FY 23 defense budget.
