  • Wow, a fifth Russian tank tries to drive around the wrecks of four others... and runs into the same minefield:

One BMP down to a mine, second keeps going and hits a mine too:

    • The BMP video looks too gamish. The grass just doesn't look real.

Well, it's real footage, not from a game.

I'd wager that's an alfalfa field after its second cutting of the year.

Think about that. You're cutting hay in a minefield. No, this can't be real. The grass is too well cut in what was supposed to be the front lines for 3 months. No one is cutting hay in a minefield, let alone in the middle of a shooting battle.

And those BMPs drove in a straight line? After the field has been cratered by Russian artillery? Two of them?

          • I would suggest the jury is 'out' on the footage concerned. Possibly true, possibly not. The Poster is a 'Bot' after all, which raises doubts. I mean it's not like 'Oryx' posted the video's in question.
If you are emotionally invested in 'believing' something is true you have lost the ability to tell if it is true.

Alfalfa isn't grass, and gets cut about every 5 weeks. Front lines move.

I spent some time looking at satellite photos around the purported location, the Vuhledar area in the Donetsk region, and the terrain, power lines, and hedgerows in the fields around that town are a dead ringer for the video.

So unless someone can find footage from Vuhledar Donetsk Simulator 2022, the jury's not out.

For example, here we have a double wood pole transmission tower running parallel to a hedgerow on one side, and a utility pole on the other. Again, unless someone has created the Vuhledar Donetsk Simulator 2022 video game, I think we can rest assured this is actual footage.

And to think I spent an hour geolocating this in light of unwarranted skepticism, when I could have just found the relevant twitter thread and scrolled down. :)

If you haven't noticed, the front has been at a standstill for 3 months.

Then I'm litterally surprised by the environment. Not only is the weed too short, those BMPs didn't lose ball joint bearings going over craters. I'm not, howevber, surprise at continue Russian stupidity. This attack should have been done via dismounted infantry.

                  • Regardless of what the field is, the footage is real. Not a video game.

                      I stand corrected on that.

Apologies Ironduke. But since the static phase of the war commenced and we see fewer examples of direct 'real time' conflict on line I tend to be a bit more skeptical about the examples I do see. Old habits kicking in I guess. Seeing anything Russian blow up is good news.

                        • If the footage is made from small comercial off-the shelf drones (which the ucranians have taken up with a vengeance) then it's no wonder the video is low quality. They don't have cameras equiped for high-res, long(ish) range real-time transmissions.

                          • Looks like the long- awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kherson has gotten underway.
