I'm sure the Russian armed forces and the Russian people are extremely eager to take on NATO in a full-scale war.

He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

Perhaps this gave Ukraine the false hope that it could deter Russian aggression. Without this, perhaps the Ukrainians could have worked out a deal with the Russians with more realistic expectations, for example, neutrality in return for political independence and able to continue economic ties with the West.

No, this CANNOT be laid at NATO's door. We DID NOT give them false hope. We tried to train them and they did nothing with that training. The people we trained were not promoted and were sent back to their old units without chanigng the way the old units operated nor turned into trainers themselves.

Our advice was ignored. We were screaming for months that Putin was going to invade and Zelensky did absolutely nothing to prepare. He started full mobilization yesterday ... when the Russians are already inside Kiev.

There is ONLY one person to be blamed for the Ukrainian predicament and that is Zelensky himself and no one else.

The European Union and United Kingdom on Friday froze the assets of Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as part of a new tranche of sanctions punishing Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.[*]The moves reflect Moscow's new pariah status but are largely symbolic, as it's unclear what assets Putin and Lavrov actually hold in the West.[*]Later Friday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the U.S. will also impose sanctions on Putin and Lavrov.[*]Worth noting: It is rare for the U.S. to sanction a sitting world leader, and the Kremlin had previously said it would consider sanctions on Putin himself to be a de facto severing of relations between the U.S. and Russia.
No one can directly sanction Putin. He has had years to hide assets after 2014 for one, and two, his biggest asset is Russia itself. He feeds off the country, her people, and her income so if you want to hurt Putin you must hurt Russia and her people.

I have a feeling that the Marine blowing himself up with the bridge and the 13 soldiers saying F*&k you and getting wiped out by a Russian warship are propaganda stories also. But the Ukrainians need moral boosting stories right now, so its understandable

                Gunny,

Are you talking about the guys on Snake Island? There is supposedly audio of that. Can't vouch for its provenance, but it is more proof than the 'ghost', which always sounded like a fairy tale.

Bunkers and trenches don't move. However, even taking your view, Zelensky went and screw that up by ignoring Putin and went to every NATO capital demanding sanctions against Russia and a NATO membership timeline. Even today, he's demanding NATO establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine. The fuck is an idiot.

Oh, let's not forget. "The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride." Great soundbite. Great show. Except Kiev is fucking cut off. There is zero ways for any ammunition to reach him. Showmanship with zero sense of reality.

Europe has no business getting involved between the rivalry of US and Russia. After two world wars, you'd expect they learned their lesson.

                    • NATO Takes Unprecedented Action To Respond To Russia: Putin’s ‘Objectives Not Limited To Ukraine’

                      By Ryan Saavedra

NATO activated the NATO Response Force for the first time ever on Friday in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion into Ukraine, which many critics have said is a result of weakness from Democrat President Joe Biden.

“NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Tod Wolters activated the multinational force consisting of land, air, sea and special operations forces from the allies that can deploy quickly in support of the NATO alliance,” CNN reported. “The entire NATO Response Force is 40,000 troops but [NATO Secretary General Jens] Stoltenberg did not say how many would be activated.”

Stoltenberg warned during a press conference on Friday that Putin’s “objectives are not limited to Ukraine.”

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht described Putin as acting “highly unpredictable,” worrying that he may attack NATO countries.

“We have a residual hope that he will not cross further borders,” she said. “But I have to say, honestly: that is no certainty.”

Wolters said that NATO has forces operating in the maritime, land, air, space, and cyber domains that are actively working to defend NATO’s sovereignty.

“This is an historic moment and the very first time the Alliance has employed these high readiness forces in a deterrence and defense role. They represent a flexible, combat credible force that can be employed in multiple ways and we are utilizing fully their inherent agility,” he said. “These deterrence measures are prudent and enhance our speed, responsiveness and capability to shield and protect the one billion citizens we swore to protect. We are grateful to our allies Canada and the United States for their recent commitments to deploy an additional 7,460 troops, including an armored brigade combat team, artillery units, a naval frigate, and surveillance aircraft, to support this Alliance-wide effort.”

“As NATO establishes this enhanced vigilance on the Alliance’s eastern flank, Allied military forces will posture and exercise to increase our readiness and interoperability. Your soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines stand ready to protect every meter of Allied territory,” he continued. “We admire the courage and tenacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and citizens in defending their country. The Alliance remains steadfast in our collective commitment to shield and protect each other. Moving forward, we are prepared to leverage the strength of all our forces to defend the Alliance.”
In the realm of spirit, seek clarity; in the material world, seek utility.

Unfortunately, Rubio, who is ranking intelligence and has been sharing quite a bit on the Birdsite, has hinted that Putin may in fact be mentally unwell. So he might actually order an attack on a NATO country, which would probably quickly spiral into at least a limited nuclear war.

I...uhh...hope there is someone in Moscow sane enough and powerful enough to stop that trigger from being pulled.

The ABCT is not deploying but being established from the European Activity Set already in place and simply staffed with troops rotating in. The EAS storage site - about 20 km from me - has seen the requisite "activity" for the whole past week.

                          • Anyone have any good estimates on Russian losses? Day 1 Ukraine claimed to have destroyed a brigades worth of mechanized vehicles and mauled an airborne brigade. Yesterday they claimed two IL76's. They haven't slowed Russia but if those claims are even close to accurate Russia is bleeding badly.

If that's the case, then someone ought to have a chat with him about how that's not kosher. Preferably over a cup of chamomile sweetened with the finest polonium cubes.

                              • There are disturbing reports about heavy gunfights in Kiev. Multiple videos with killed civilians and people in uniform. Probably dosens.

And the most terrible part... There are no Russian troops in Kiev yet!

25000 AKs giveaway was a brilliant idea.
                                Winter is coming.
