Uhh, seems like that final battle scene in Lord of the Rings where the Orcs surround them on all sides and Aragorn shouts a big YOLO.

Modern war and especially Russian Deep Battle is far more terrifying. The terror isn't that you're surrounded. The terror is that the Orcs are already eating your wife and kids while you're the one who left them exposed.

Strikes in the first three hours

Putin has announced that 'special' military operations are being conducted by Russia in the Donbas region. If he is to be believed (huge IF) this may mean Donbas this is where bulk of the ground fighting will occur. It would also suggest his intention is to expand control region outwards from there until Russia can physically link up with the Crimean Peninsula (presumably capturing and restoring vital fresh water infrastructure for the peninsula in the process). Unfortunately geography also indicates such a push would also make the Dnieper River the logical stopping point for Russia's westward advance (unless its intention is to try and seize the entire country). As I see it now the question is how of Ukrainian territory north of Donbas and east of the Dnieper are they prepared to seize? Small bites or all of it?

This is unreal, I didn't think Putin would actually launch a full scale invasion. All sympathies and prayers to the people of Ukraine against this ruthless and unprovoked aggression.

Only thing that will stop Russia is sanctions on Chinese companies doing business in Russia. Russia is just Xi's dog.

Everyone is assuming that Putin is going to invade and occupy the whole of the UKR. There is another option, a punitive expedition. Come in, kill the Ukrainian Army, sack Kiev, leave, and let the Ukrainians pick up the pieces.

If they do that I'd also expect them to install a puppet government as well.

One thing I want to remind everyone about...it is early days. The Russians will use misinformation and cyber attacks as part of this offensive. Be watchful of what you read and post. Make sure your virus protection us up to snuff. If something seems especially different, off the mark or just unbelievable it may very well be. Use multiple sites for gathering information.

At least 3 Russian aircraft shot down.

Some Russian EPW's captured.

Russia will win but it won't be cheap.

After this Russia is going to be an International pariah. Why would they leave the current government of Ukraine in place? If the Russians leave without toppling the current Government, Ukraine is only going to be far more hostile to Russia and will try and arm itself as fast as possible with a lot of help from the West.
