  • Russia launches a new specops SSN

Under a wrap of secrecy, Russian fleet lauched a new special ops nuclear submarine.

    Severomorsk, Aug 06 2003

Not named submarine of the project 210 was laid down in 1988, but lack of funding stopped construction for the long time. Funding resumed 3 years ago, and today, sub unofficially named "Losharic" (cartoon character made of spheres) was launched.

Sub was intended as a rescue vessel with the max diving depth of 6000m, but over the years project changed and now it's carrying weapons.
At present time it's a deepest diving nuclear submarine in the world (former holder of that record was an ill-fated "Papa" class ship "Komsomolets").

Yeah, btw today is exactly 3 years after "Kursk" incident.

p.s. and 31 year after the last US soldier left Vietnam soil.
