  • Does it take the pressure off Pakistan in some ways?

PRC's India Plan is the Pakistani Army, it could be that this is in some ways related to ensuring breathing space for them.

If PRC is going to be aggressive in this area, they will coordinate their actions with their Brothers from Another Mother, their Iron Friends with friendship deeper than the deepest ocean and taller than the highest mountains, etc.

    • One explanation i've heard for why China is opening so many fronts simultaneously is to affect news headlines.

Get the world off their back for Covid. Get the world to stop blaming China for it.

There's gains too on the domestic side as China is seen as taking on the world.

There is no military objective from this pov just PR.

You say Kargil, Shekhar says Chinese version of Op Prakaram : )

Musharaf caved within a month as a result of that Op. We won't be so easy.

          No.

China will fight India to the last Pakistani. Who gets trampled in between? Yep, PA. And, a 2-front war has been thought out and war planned for over 2 decades now.

China wants to take over heights, so that they can dominate our supply lines. A pre-cursor to CPEC being successful, else infrastructure in PoK remains at the mercy of our bombs.

And getting more bad press? What if this actually starts a shooting war? China can't hide bodies in the 100s, without being questioned by their subjects in Weibo, can they? I'd also take the liberty to assume, some Chinese do use Twitter and other social media sites, knowing fully well how to get past censorship.

They're taking a calculated gamble that neither side wants one

True but they are a negligible minority.

That is the most common operations reason i've heard.

Feeder roads threaten their positions, Highway G219 as well as CPEC.

They are trying to protect the Paks hold on PO J&K. Prevent us from taking that area back from the Paks.

Perpetuate illegality in both Ladakh & J&K at a sovereign and strategic cost to India.

What actions have we taken to endanger CPEC though ? meaning the Karakoram highway.

Can't think of any. Our feeder roads are to areas where the Chinese already have their own.

                  We're playing catch up.

They're the freaking enemy! They will articulate what they want the day they take what they want! India does the same freaking thing. It makes ZERO sense to this military outsider why the Elephant and the Dragon is fighting over a bunch of rocks.

Trust but verify. Both sides are just changing ROEs. This was a re-enforced platoon level kung fu fight. And I stress KUNG FU! This was a KUNG FU fight. Do you even realize how stupid that sounds. KUNG FU! NEITHER SIDE IS CHANGING THAT! Yeah your men are now to carry slung firearms with mags unloaded and no round chambered. Even on UN Patrols, we had mags locked even if no round chambered and our weapons are not slung. Your men ... and theirs will still use kung fu!

Those are the two thoughts of the day

Any one want to take them on ?

What can China grab while we're distracted

The buildups so far as in Pangong, Hotsprings & Depsang.

                            Two front war | ORF | Jun 24 2020

He thinks it might happen within the next two years.

Indian military officials have for long maintained that the armed forces are prepared for a two-front contingency. That moment of truth might be just around the corner. Even if the immediate crisis with China gets resolved, it should now be very clear that both India and China are now closer to a hot war than they have been in nearly half a century. Whenever that war happens – most probably within the next couple of years – India will almost certainly be fighting on two fronts.

To prepare for such an eventuality, apart from beefing up its offensive capabilities, India needs to change its war doctrines, including its nuclear doctrine, to deter the enemies.
If one thinks of the Jun 15 incident, it seems provocative enough to get India to fire the first shot. This China would then seize upon as saying we were the aggressor and then justify their actions as self defense.
