    Canada, Australia and Sweden

What do they have in common ? China has a problem with them

These countries don't have barbed wire on their missions abroad. Their citizens are generally safe any where in the world because these countries do not make waves.

You have to ask yourself how Sweden gets in their bad list. On the other end of the Eurasian land mass. Far away.

China kidnapped a bookseller of anti-CCP literature from HK. This individual was a dissident with a Swedish passport.

So Sweden wanted to know what happened to its citizen and things went downhill from there.

See, this would be common sense but good luck getting a "China expert" to agree.

We did something like this but differently in Doklam.

They were building infrastructure. We just went and confiscated their equipment. No excuse to start a war.

Imagine if similar was done when they were doing land fills on those islands in the SCS.

Allowing them to reclaim those islands unimpeded was the first mistake.

Didn't matter if they put SAMs there or condos but if you allow them to do any construction it implies they are in control.

Not illegal for them to do so. Same kind of thing that allow us to lay communication cables between the Americas and Europe and Asia.

          • Well, others can also do that in the same ocean but those islands are exclusive for them only.

So is an oil rig. ARAMCO can't use an EXXON oil rig in the Carribean.

At the same time i don't know how much longer one can go without choosing sides

                • Australia is funding Quad related study activities with half a million dollars.

PRC is aiming for an alliance against itself and making moves for ensuring that this alliance is framed and formalized.

If Xi Jinping's hold on PRC continues, there is a big confrontation coming, and lot of money to be made in the Defence Industry.

But all are free to have a rig beyond any countries EEZ.

So why am I bringing up these islands ? because that is the lesson India learnt this time.

During Kargil, China built a track from finger 8 to 4 in the Pangong area. Around 2005 they black topped it.

Fingers 4 to 8 are disputed territory. India's claim line is up to finger 8. China's is up to finger 4.

In 1993, it was agreed both sides would be allowed to patrol to their respective claim lines.

We continued to patrol as usual and did not oppose what they did until one fine day they said fingers 4 to 8 are Chinese territory (!)

The time to stop them is when they start building or have permanent infrastructure on disputed territory.

There's no real legal mechanism to stop the Chinese from building islands. However, there is legal mechanism saying those islands cannot be used for territorial claims. As an engineer, those islands need constant maintenance. I'm damned scare of underwater errosion that would decimate the foundation.

Sir, those islands were built using sands dredged from the sea bed, and then compacted. There are no foundations involved. You're right, they do have risks from erosion.

                        • Indian Navy inducts two American Predator drones on lease, can be deployed on China border

For reconnaissance. I don't think it is armed, since it's leased. And it was retired by the USAF in 2018, so.....why not the Reaper? 18 more would be Reaper or old Predators?

State department has approved sale of 22 MQ-9 Reaper drones in 2017, so why MQ-1 Predator has been taken on lease? Familiarity with the platform and an urgent need for longer hours of reconaissance?

Expecting a lot of noise from Pakistan.

Why can't a sandcastle last beyond a tide? There are prefab concrete retaining walls that were first installed to hold the sand in place. Otherwise, no amount of compacting would stop the sand being washed away overnight.
