Border face-off: China and India each deploy 3,000 troops

Standard survival gear. At those heights, weather can turn real bad, real fast. I'm talking you can go from dry humid to being buried in 3 inches of snow in 30 seconds. At that point, you hope you can find a rock to shield you from the wind, get into your bag for extra insulation and hope you've got enough body fat to last you until you get help.
Is it not the right time to ask for gun rights in India, so that citizens can arm and defend themselves in the face of external aggression?

Makes sense. But why only 1 PLA soldier got lost? What do you think?

You ever get lost? I lost #1 Daughter more than once in a shopping centre and all it took was a second looking away. More than one newby in our gang got lost going 10 feet to a tree stand. Embarrasingly, more than once, I had to walk six miles north in my hunt area just to find the road so I can find my way back to the camp.

Quite a few times. Embarrassed to think about it. What I meant actually is patrols are sent in groups, so how did only 1 get lost. Is it like bad weather in the night, maybe he went to piss and couldn't find his way back to the patrol party?

Hong Kong-based military commentator Song Zhongping said China had to tread carefully in relation to the additional Indian troops in the disputed region.
“India always thinks it is in an inferior position and doesn’t accept the so-called Line of Actual Control. So it’s possible that they will initiate attacks to take back the region that Indians see as belonging to them,” Song said.
The area occupied by China since April is disputed territory. It isn't Indian territory. India has been blocked from patrolling there.
If there is to be an attack it would be to push the Chinese back to their territory. And then retreat back to our side leaving the disputed territory in between,
This would be a restoration of status quo ante.
Another way of interpreting this line is the PLA General thinks we will take back Aksai Chin.
Zhou Chenming, a Beijing-based military specialist, said rising nationalist sentiment in India and the big difference between the two countries over the need for troops in the area might prompt India to be more adventurous and opportunistic.
“The high nationalistic sentiment in India leaves no room for Indian troops to step back, so I think there is a high possibility of a long-term stand-off,” Zhou said.
Indian nationalism is territorial. Not religion, not anything else. What that means is, India doesn't covet other lands. Doesn't mean we will give up ours, or not take back what is ours.
Fear is good. Some fear should be there. That imperialistic ambitions will be blocked and punished. And retribution will be swift.

“India only needs 50,000 soldiers to maintain the Line of Actual Control, but now, instead of withdrawing troops before the winter comes, India has added 100,000 more soldiers in Ladakh,” Wang said, referring to the disputed China-India border.
“India has doubled or tripled its troops near the Line of Actual Control; they are mostly stationed within 50km (31 miles) of Chinese territory, and they could easily cross into China in a few hours.”
Wang is a former deputy commander of the Nanjing Military Region, now part of the Eastern Theatre Command. He did not cite a source for the troop numbers.
yeah, no source. I don't buy this general's assertions. We have 12 divisions that's a max of 120k.
But Pompeo said we had half that deployed.
Getting estimates is tricky from satellite images. But its between 40 - 80k a side.
So i don't believe we have 150k deployed there. That would be three times China's numbers and well on that basis the General is right to conclude we plan to do something. Assembly points and all.
He said the danger of a conflict had risen and “incidents” in the Taiwan Strait and the coming US presidential election might give India an opportunity to “do something big”.
Chinese paranoia is amusing. Self inflicted.
Here he is saying India might pull off a stunt during the elections. Another line going around is the Americans might cause an incident in the SCS or Taiwan straits.
