    Explosion hits rail track

MULTAN: A bomb exploded on the main Multan-Karachi railway track on Saturday, damaging a 10-foot long section of the track and disrupting train traffic, police said. No casualties were reported.

Ahmed Mukhtar, the senior superintendent of police for Multan Railways, said a high-intensity bomb exploded near Pul Sandani, three kilometres from Sadiqabad, causing a 10-foot wide crater. However, the police controlled the situation and trains were running down-track on the Sadiqbad-Channi Goth railway section.” staff report

Those who have read the Pakistani papers would have realised that this is a regular feature.

Rather unfortuate that the Frankenstein has been uncorked!

Travel agent killed for spying on Qaeda

    FROM HAMID NAWAZ
PESHAWAR - Suspected al-Qaeda operatives Saturday gunned down a travel agent in Miranshah for his alleged support to the military operation in North Waziristan Agency and passing out information to the government agencies about their supporters in Waziristan areas.
Reports say that Bismillah Jan, a resident of Miranshah, was sitting in his office of travel agency when armed men opened indiscriminate firing at him, killing him on the spot. The attackers escaped afterwards.
Eyewitness said that the killers had covered their faces and were shouting pro-Qaeda and anti-US slogans. While fleeing they told the passers-by that they would not harm anyone, but alleged that Bismillah Jan was spying on them and passing out information to the security personnel about their whereabouts.
This was later confirmed that almost a year back some local Taliban supporters had attacked Bismillah Jan, but he remained unhurt. Later, during a Jirga meeting Bismillah Jan had assured them that he would not leak information to government troops about the presence of al-Qaeda and their supporters in North Waziristan agency.
However the residents of the area believed that Jan continued to leak information about the al-Qaeda supporters to security personnel.
When the office of Political Administration was contacted for comments, an officer wishing anonymity, said that Bismillah Jan was in good books of Political Agent. However, he refused to confirm his spying role.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night some armed men claiming to be al-Qaeda members reportedly met a local shopkeeper, Saleem Khan, and told him that he along with others should abandon the computer and CDs business. Otherwise, they warned that they would attack all such shops and destroy the computers and CDs.
A person who had overheard such a happening told The Nation that the al-Qaeda members had argued that computers and CDs were the main causes of vulgarity and obscenity in the area and they would never allow such things. Fearing attack, Saleem Khan and other traders Saturday removed the computer and CDs from their shops, sources in Miranshah confirmed.
