It's just a shorthand way of saying what I imagine is meant by the people that don't like the things we've done up to now, or think we're going too far in order to prosecute this war. It's my own formulation, and I'm sure that the people that oppose Gitmo, waterboarding, detention without trial, and other measures that seem perfectly common-sense to ME, would object to the way I've phrased this sentence.

I wonder if the same rule should apply to the Civil War and World War 2?

And Vietnam. War is dirty. The dirtier you are the more likely you are to win. I remember being aprehensive about going into Combat. My eldest brother (RAF) said, "Don't worry about it, they have not come across the British Tommy before, one of the most ruthless soldiers in the world"; after that everything was Hunky Dory, and he was right.

That is exactly right. War is dirty, nasty, bloody, unpleasant in the extreme. It has to be, lest we grow used to it.

Of course I cannot say it as well as Capt. Kirk did in the episode "A Taste of Armageddon." It was one of the all time greatest Star Trek epidsodes.

Sounded to me like something Obama would say. Typical lib line.

Nothing to worry about though. I've been watching the UN lovefest where all the dictators are praising and embracing Obama. Makes me sick.
