As well as the xDMK's. Not possible for PM to visit Colombo in eight years (!)

But in a nutshell this explains the lack luster foreign policy we've had for several terms now. Incapable of cutting meaningful deals with Pakistan, Sri lanka, Bangladesh, China or the US. Somebody would always trip it up. Domestic politics overrules national interest.

From that view i can understand the PM's frantic networking abroad to date. Make up for lost time whilst they still have a mandate.

    • What's interesting was even though the shift towards Pro USA started to happen in the UPA regime and some say it started in the predecessor Vajpayee led NDA regime... there was never this much of excitement and expectations. The very next day Pakistan General ran to China and Chinese reaffirmed Pakistan is their Iron friend. And now China is planning to invite Putin to their parade.

China to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to witness a military parade

We might see Putin and Xi hugging and laughing, showing a little bromance

This shows Chinese are definitely rattled and probably the strategy of Look East is working ... We look East far enough and we might see the USA too

At a minimum it allows the US admin to get to know the new adminstration in Delhi better. Where are the old clinton hands with experience of previous NDA ? in retirement! Modi was PNG in the US until recently, the US ambassador meets with him the first time only after it is clear he is going to win the elections.

There is a fork in the road, there is a new adminstration in charge so relations are not going to be the same as in the past.

Right and now you know why this Ukraine thing gives me a headache. We will have to work with all countries in our interest.

Rattled happened with the nuke deal. What happened to the nuke deal since ? nothing. Its back on track now. So the rattling happened back in 2005. What it does do however is make them compete with Japan & US for our attention :)

I would rather defend the sovereignty of a lively democracy with free press than NATO member Turkey and their egomaniac president, who makes it a crime to criticize him.

Nixon picked the wrong side in the Bangladesh war of independence, which helped push India closer to Soviet Russia. If we want to protect free society this is a good chance to build something here.
You need to know much more about Indian R-Day Parade. The display of defense stuff is half the thing since the rest is more about cultural display where each state participates. You can check it from 2:00:00 onwards.

US indeed chose wrong sides and threatened India by its carrier group.US first supports rogue nations and then suffer causalities and then pull back after getting backstabbed. This is a never ending process US likes to perform.

          Situation has changed today.

The US did not choose the wrong side initially. Pakistan has performed services far beyond what India could ever have done. The backstabbing did not come till the middle of last decade.

Yes, the US did choose to anger the Iranians. that was stupid

            • It was just a visit

MMS govt understood that appeasement was necessary. Modi sarkar understands it also.
