  • Emil Jacobs' character was played by Tom Tammi. Unless that's not the character you were looking for?

      • Alright, let's come up with something a little more historical:

Approximately how many slaves were not freed by Lincoln's Emancipation Declaration?

        • Aproximatelly all of them ;)

The Emancipation Proclamation was a document that officially changed nothing -- Congress had already passed laws outlawing slavery in the rebel states, which was the only territory Lincoln covered in the Proclamation. (Lincoln the politician wanted to keep border-state voters happy.)

And the Proclamation took effect on Jan. 1, 1863, two years after the Civil War began -- what took Lincoln so long? Again, politics. He couldn't very well have issued a decree freeing the slaves when the North was losing the war. There would be no way to enforce the Proclamation, thus making it appear a desperate and hollow threat. So Lincoln waited until a big Union win, at Antietam.

Speaking of enforcement, the Proclamation technically freed slaves in another country -- the Confederacy had seceded. So what happened to the slaves in the Union? They had to wait until 1865 for the passage of the slavery-abolishing 13th Amendment, which wasn't officially ratified until after Lincoln was assassinated.

            • This guy "invented" something in the middle of the 15th century. Problem is, there are rumors that he stole the invention from a Dutchman, but even if he didn't, his "invention" had actually been invented by the Chinese and the Koreans over 300 years before this European "invented" it. Who is this patent stealing European and what did he "invent"?

                  • Printing press? Except that concept "invented" well over 300 years prior to the 15th century. So I dunno about that. But the bit about it being invented in the East many centuries prior and it being re-invented in Europe in the 15th century by two Europeans corresponds, so who knows.

                    • Printing press, indeed. The Chinese invented the first press in China 1040AD, and the first metal one was invented in Korea ~1230AD, which is why I said over 300 years

                      • So I shall try to keep the quizz alive... let me think of real hard one. Ok I settle on a hard question form; his sister married a King of Scotland. Though she was not Scottish nor born in Britain her ancestors reunited different claimants to a throne via marriage. What was his Mothers name?

Her mother's name is Margaret of England :fish:

                            • No Doktor and no No AR, though ty for the ovious. Her ancestors reunited, by marriage, the former ruling family with the ancestors of those who later ruled. Is early medieval as a clue but easy.
