I'm not a MacArthur fan. He should have fortified and supplied his defenses on the Phillipines better as surely being in the Far East he had some military intelligence that the Japanese would attack.
He cried that his troops occupying Japan were ill-prepared for the Korean War. Whose fault was that considering he was the commanding general of these troops.
His invasion of North Korea by splitting the X Corps from 8th Army was careless and allowed for many U.S. casualties when the Chinese attacked. Very egotistical as he ignored warnings of Chinese intervention in North Korea. General Ridgeway saved his bacon in Korea as without Ridgeway the U.S. may have very well evacuated South Korea in defeat. Ridgeway got the troops out of their vehicles and into the mountains to defend a solid line of defense.
