    Happy VJ Day

On this day in 1945 my dad was on watch in the fireroom of the USS Cabot when he got the word.

    There would be no invasion.

He remebered feeling reflief. He told me it would be several hours before he felt joy.

RIP to all who paid the ultiamte sacrifice.

My mom told me she remembers walking up that day hearing her parents talking about going back to Nanjing. She thought that was strange because it was occupied by Japanese. She later found out the Japanese had accepted the ultimatum by the US after the Americans used a secret weapon.

RIP for all who fought gallantly in the war and the civilians who couldn't get out of the way in time.

War doesn't prove who was right just who was left. RIP to all who fell and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

My father heard of it while on Luzon. A couple of weeks later he landed at a flattened Yokohama, after being transferred from 32nd Infantry to the 8th Army, to provide security for the General setting up his HQ there. I'm sure revisionists will pop up once again but since I am here then I say to hell with them.

A salute to those who didn't return...
