Thanks. I didn’t notice that thread.

I am glad to know most people have the conscience and right judgment to know that the Japanese emperor Hirohito is a true war criminal. Of course, exempting Hirohito from the war crime trail is understandable for the situation at that time. But the result is that Japanese never sincerely apologize for the war crimes of their army in WWII and today those war criminals become idols for some Japanese.
I am here for exchanging opinions.

wabpilot has been here, off and on, for longer than most of us. I can attest that he's a rather prickly feller and can be hard to deal with , but he knows his stuff. In my experience, if you leave it alone, he'll leave it alone, if you push, he'll push back.

    Just my two cents.
I enjoy being wrong too much to change my mind.

Its cool general, I just dont like the fact of somebody calling me "little boy" and being told to go play with children when the disrespect came from his end first. It dont matter to me if he wants to play. But if he wants respect perhaps he should give it as well. Until then we can just keep on going if thats the course chosen and he certainly wont get any from this end. Especially from this "little boy".

This excerpt from Ralph Raico's "Harry S. Truman: Advancing the Revolution" in John V. Denson, ed., Reassessing the Presidency: The Rise of the Executive State and the Decline of Freedom (Auburn, Alabama: Ludwig von Mises Institute, 2001), is reprinted with permission. The notes are numbered as they are because this is an excerpt.

The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a war crime worse than any that Japanese generals were executed for in Tokyo and Manila. If Harry Truman was not a war criminal, then no one ever was.
Typical liberal hypocrite socialist childish naive comments(i.e. piece of sh!t) the Japanese occupation in South East Asia, Mainland China, Korea and Taiwan butched FAR MORE people than the people killed by those two atomic bombs...

    Certainly Justifiable

Operation Downfall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since it was estiamted that the US would suffer almost a million casualties in Operation Downfall (the proposed invasion of Japan) and my father and uncle would both have been aboard carriers off of that coast, I for one am VERY glad we dropped both of the weapons. And estimates of Japanese casualties, miliatry and civilian, were expected to be up to 5 times higher.

The atmon bombs were actually expected to be used in the initial bombardments prior to the invasion.

    Use the Atomic Bomb

Finally, if you think it was a decision Truman made in private, read the latest article I am linking to. Truman had the best advise anyone could have asked for.

    He made the right call.

Soldiers follow orders, if not then they are brigands. The bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima brought an end to the war in the Pacific. Speculation as to the casualties incurred doing it without those bombs lies in the realm of what if.
Air and naval superiority had been accomplished. My father was on Okinawa, flew missions over Japan, served in the occupation. That he later finished his twenty five year service in the missile defence of SAC was his testimony that strength through superior fire power and his belief that MAD was the best way to prevent further nuclear weapon use was a tenable position. He also put his children up as hostages to his judgement throughout the fifties and early sixties as residents with him on AFB's generally regarded as primary targets. He never voiced his opinion on the decision to use the bombs, nor did he hide from us the reality of their effects. I believe that he knew that it would be our, the following generations, decision to make regarding the necessity and morality in their use.
Ps. Some of the posters here are extremely erudite but still need to proofread or use a spell checker.

    A. Bomb was a crime against humanity.it ended the war. certainly, not considering what will be the effect of bombs to innocent Japans and the region they live.

every problem is an advantage through successfullness.
    the Japans did it.

"On August 8, 1945, leaflets were dropped and warnings were given to Japan by Radio Saipan."

This is the most ignorant statement I've read so far. Terrorists intentionally strike civilian targets WITHOUT warning. The Japanese were warned via leaflets and radio. The Japanese government was issued the Potsdam Declaration and refused.

    Speaking of terrorist attacks...

Turkey continues anti-Kurdish raid in N.Iraq

Turkey has defended its latest military incursion into northern Iraq against renewed criticism from Arab countries.

Both Iraq and the Arab League have condemned the incursion, which involves twenty-thousand Turkish troops supported by several thousand fighters from an Iraqi Kurdish group, the Kurdistan Democratic Party or KDP.

A senior Turkish military official Chief of the General Staff, general Hakki Karaday, said the operation was proceeding successfully. The PUK says there have been several air raids against its positions and Turkish troops and tanks are fighting alongside the KDP deep inside Iraq. Turkey admits that it has begun a military operation in Iraqi territory. Turkey's protestations of innocence are growing increasingly difficult to believe though. One Iraqi opposition group which has good contacts in the north of the country says Turkish troops moved further into Iraqi territory than at any time since 1921. The Turkish presence is causing concern throughout the region. Both Syria and Iran have demanded that Turkey withdraw immediately
Sounds like an "intentional strike against civilian targets WITHOUT warning".

dont u think it is crime against humanity?
Ending a war is a "crime against humanity"??

Considering the actions of the Ottoman Empire during WWI, you are in no position to lecture on "war morality".

Which is typical of your kind. Find fault with ending a war, whilst the massacre that happened in your own country is denied, denigrated and ignored.

-have u ever heard the term "Hibakusha"
Have u ever heard the term 'hakuchi'

-do u know how many innocent civil died just because of LEUKAEMIA (effect of a. bomb) in Japan?
You're the one that mentioned "war morality"...

the first bomb was dropped On August 6, 1945 at 8:15 am.
Took you long enough to look it up.

After the Hiroshima bombing, President Truman announced, "If they do not not accept our terms, they may expect a rain of ruin from the air the likes of which has never been seen on this earth." On August 8, 1945, leaflets were dropped and warnings were given to Japan by Radio Saipan.
American Experience | Truman | Primary Sources

Since you need an illustration of your ignorance....
On August 1, 1945, five days before the bombing of Hiroshima, the U.S. Army Air Force dropped one million leaflets over Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and 33 other Japanese cities warning that those cities were going to be destroyed within a few days and advising the residents to leave to save their lives. One side of the leaflet had a photo of five U.S. bombers unloading bombs and a list of the targeted cities.
I cant believe ur logic.u dont confine urself to chat me up but also ignore the SOUNDLESS cries of Japanese ppl.
    I cant believe ur ignorance....

What a pity. What has made you so ignorant?

    a. bomb is a tragedy committed to humanity.
No, the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, Rape of Nanking, Bataan Death March are tragedies committed to humanity. Your ignorance of history won't change that.

The Atomic Bomb ended a war, started by Japanese imperialism. What a pity you flunked history.

Very little to add to this debate excepting:

The month of August witnesses this old debate renewed virtually every year. Often it is a tiresome recitation of old arguments and older outrage: but it must be done. The day the Republic ceases to debate whether her war leaders, in the midst of the greatest crisis of the modern age, should have employed the most destructive weapons ever produced by man, is the day she abandons her solemn duty of self-government.
