    Why we disagree

    Why we disagree
    Vivekananda - 15th September 1893,Chicago

I will tell you a little story. You have heard the eloquent speaker who has just finished say, 'Let us cease from abusing each other, and he was very sorry that there should be always so much variance. But I think I should tell you a story which would illustrate the cause of this variance.

A frog lived in a well. It had lived there for a long time. It was born there and brought up there, and yet was a little, small frog. Of course, the evolutionists were not there then to tell us whether the frog lost its eyes or not, but, for our story's sake, we must take it for granted that it had its eyes, and that it every day cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists.

In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. Well, one day another frog that lived in the sea came and fell into the well.

    "Where are you from?"
    "I am from the sea."

"The sea! How big is that? Is it as big as my well?"
He took a leap from one side of the well to the other.

"My friend," said the frog of the sea, "how do you compare the sea with your little well?"

Then the frog took another leap and asked, "Is your sea this big?"
"What nonsense you speak, to compare the sea with your well!"

    "Well, then," said the frog of the well, "nothing can be bigger than my well;
there can be nothing bigger than this. This fellow is a liar, so turn him out."

That has been the difficulty all the while.

I am a Hindu.I am sitting in my own little well and thinking that the whole world is my little well. The Christian sits in his little well and thinks the whole world is his well. The Mohammedan sits in his little well and thinks that is the whole world. I have to thank you of America for the great attempt you are making to break down the barriers of this little world of ours, and hope that, in the future, the Lord will help you to accomplish your purpose.

    Indeed.

I've read some stuff on Vivekanda and it would also be of particular interest to you, that he was one of the first modern leaders in Hinduism who encouraged Hindus to quit living a life of renunciation (even if not all were devotees, the concept was glorified) and get involved in the world.

I like the world that's why I'm in Europe. This last year and 8 months has been an eye opener.

I want to go to Dubai. Dubai for Christmas would be great. My birthday is the 23rd and it would be nice to not have Christmas overshadow my day. I'm selfish...

    BS.

He himself is a Sannyasin and is very famous for having established the Ramakrishna Monastic Order, the Ramakrishna Mission and a plethora of public welfare institutions.

Sannyasin - the Hindoo monk who renounces the world.

What you have typed is so far from reality that you if say this amidst Vivekananda fans you will be laughed at.

I recommend you edit that post, like a gentleman.

Btw, I did make any half ass comments out of the blue. Granted that I'm no expert on Vivekananda, but I liked whatever little I read.

I knew I had just echoed statements I read elsewhere like this:

In medieval times the esoteric ritual and yoga of Tantra and sects of fervent devotion (see bhakti) arose and flourished. The groundswell of devotion produced poet-saints all over India who wrote religious songs and composed versions of the epics in their vernaculars. This literature plays an essential part in present-day Hinduism, as do puja, or worship of enshrined deities, and pilgrimage to sacred places. The most popular deities include Vishnu and his incarnations Rama and Krishna, Shiva, the elephant-headed god Ganesha, and the Mother-Goddess or Devi, who appears as the terrible Kali or Durga but also as Sarasvati, the goddess of music and learning, and as Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. All the gods and goddesses, each of which has numerous aspects, are regarded as different forms of the one Supreme Being. Modern Hindu leaders such as Swami Vivekananda, Mohandas Gandhi, and Aurobindo Ghose, have given voice to a movement away from the traditional ideal of world-renunciation and asceticism and have asserted the necessity of uniting spiritual life with social concerns.
Considering the fact that you made this post you ought to be more tolerant. I'm just speaking the truth as I know it from my "well". No michevious intentions, honest.

Well thats just sad and not true.

Suit yourself, I'll continune he's a very significant figure of historic India. I'd love to know more about him than I already do.

Edit: Also note that I said that out of admiration, not abuse. Considering the importance I place on a balanced life between spirituality and science.

Swami Vivekananda considered renunciation as one of India's national ideals, the other being service
    Sri Ramakrishna Math

Please note that the Ramakrishna Math is the monastic order established by Vivekananda himself and is the sole copyright holder of all works of Vivekananda.Nothing else has more crediblity than the Ramakrishna Math.

Alright lets hear it from Vivekananda himself.

Renunciation is the background of all religious thought wherever it be, and you will always find that as this idea of renunciation lessens, the more will the senses creep into the field of religion, and spirituality will decrease in the same ratio.

    Great.

So you are suggesting that ALL the Christians of Dubal were gullible illiterates and thought it was the Second Coming of Christ?

And how many would be ALL?

Or is it that you did party hopping to ALL the Christian families of Dubai and experienced what is known as "Christian Compassion" which you mistook for being treated like royalty?

Christians are normally taught to be show love to all since Jesus Loves You. Even to the enemy, Christians are taught to turn the other cheek!

In so far as cakes during Christmas, what did you think they would do otherwise? Cakes are synonymous to Christmas. Surely, you didn't expect an Easter Bunny or an Easter Egg during Christmas!

Maybe a chapati (leavended bread) would have made you happier?
