HOPE MILLS, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina deputies say they used a stun gun on a woman who blocked a McDonalds drive-thru for 20 minutes after employees refused to serve her because she broke in line.

Authorities say 37-year-old Evangeline Lucca bypassed the order screen and the line at the restaurant in Hope Mills, about 60 miles south of Raleigh, and pulled directly up to the pick-up window Friday afternoon.

Cumberland County deputies say employees refused to take her order and told her to go to the back of the line. She refused to move, and police were called.

Authorities say Lucca was shocked after she blocked the line for 20 minutes. Her 3-year-old daughter was taken into protective custody.

Lucca was charged with second-degree trespass. A phone listing for her couldn't be found.

What, she couldn't wait 6 minutes for her reprocessed fat?

HEH...I get my sweet tea and my salads from McDonalds....besides I would have been more worried for the child that she was putting in harms way...The world, no matter where, is filled with asshats...the clown she cut in front of could have easily pulled out a piece and popped her several times in front of her child....

Stunned gunned, arrested, child taken into custody and all for the sake of a McDonalds. Anyone of them would have caused a riot in this Country.

    To rob McD?

Besides, from what I understand, she was American, not an immigrant

It sounds to me like she was disturbing the peace at a local business - blocking other customers from doing business there - possibly costing the business 100's of dollars. I wasn't there - but its hard to believe the police couldn't handle this woman without using a stun gun... Perhaps she was bigger and stronger than they were - or was hyped up on speed? It does sound like she was out of control in public, an arrest for disorderly conduct would seem appropriate - some one being arrested when they have a child in tow, would normaly end with the child in protective care while the perp was processed and held for a court appearence (who takes their kid along when they go to commit a crime - or doesn't consider their kid being with them when they contemplate acting up in public and getting arrested? (no competant parent would do this - IMO).

The question really seems to be "was this much force really necessary?"

Nothing sadder than trailer trash going through McDonalds withdrawal.

I'd think yes, it was necessary, didn't seem like she was rational, i really question he sanity, or she was high on something, anyone that cuts in at drive thru, blocks it, and raises sh..tstorm, deserves to be stunned, cuffed, booked, than pbly asked questions. but i doubt she will learn anything

Agree. Stun guns & the like were supposed to pffer police an alernative to firearms. Instead they are increasingly being used to obtain compliance. Poor policing based on the evidence. An unpleasnt trend.

A 260 lb enraged mama thick with muscles... stun gun = appropriate. Why should a cop risk potential industry to move that side of beef out of the drive through window?

My thought process on Police force graduations is something like this:

If a cop approaches and asks you to do something (like move), a rational person settles down immediately and complies. No force needed. The next step up means you are dealing with someone irrational or under the influence. The choices are now a physical hand-to-hand confrontation or maybe a zap with a stun gun. I'd rather get zapped than beaten with a baton and my arm dislocated.

It looks like she queue jumped quite a lot. What happens to the child? Does her immediate family have any say on her being put into care? The child watching her mother being arrested, then taken away by strangers, must have been traumatic for her albeit she is only three and hopefully her memory of it will be short. I would be interested to know what happens to the mother if she goes to Court... What happens to the child if the mother is jailed. All for the want of a hamburger this woman could be jailed and an innocent child could be removed from a family (said in a hushed voice) unit.

    Mr. Lukins,

My mother and my wife both work in schools and they agree on one thing - people should obtain permits to have kids.

*Stupidity. In many instances where I have gone through McD's drive thru line and it was lengthy, I found it faster to just go inside and was out before the cars in front of me even got to order.

Hard to believe the ignorance of some people. And you would think especially when you have a child with you that people would be more concerned about the childs well being and safety then their own selfishness and ignorance when no one has prevoked them to act other.

Tazer her again. Here idiot hold these fries, I like them crispy.

In this case - I wonder how safe her child is in her care. It is sad when a child is taken from a family, but it seems like it is a necessary and lesser evil here - a ferocious McD addicted "battle momma" - what happens if the poor kid acts up - nobody did a thing to her in the drive through - her food addiction was the only "provokation" - I don't think the McD people did anything wrong - they were just trying to do their jobs and serve customers. Perhaps the police only did what they had too.

    McDonalds drive-through. Private property.

Over here the most she could be charged with is for trespassing. And coercion of the people waiting behind her if they were stuck in line - if she'd dragged it on for a couple hours, not for only 20 minutes.

Because that's what he's paid for?

That depends entirely on culture. In a lot of countries it would be the rational reaction to question authority and once they pull out their taser to pull out your gun.
