    Donating Blood

Had this question on my mind a while back and Ben's comment just reminded me to finally post it.
Who among the Wabbits donates blood? Who doesn't (and why)?

There are two “No” options. One for those who simply don't want to donate (being to lazy or forgetful also counts) and one for those who are not allowed to (for health issues for example).
    uh I might be wrong

Can't stand needles counts as No (don't want to) to No (can't)?

Like I said, I donate every three months even though I hate needles. The 20 minutes every three months can potentially save someone's life, and I can definitely spare the time. If we won't even do the little things to help each other out, those that take no time and effort on our behalf, then we'll never ever get around to the big things.

They were never in shortage of my blood type (A1+). If they were I'd press the teeth hard and look the other way around.

As I said I have horror when it comes to needles. Bad experiences when it come to hitting my veins. One of the reasons I can't be an addict.

My fear of needles is why I'll never get a tattoo or some sort of piercing

I'll never get any of those because I don't see the point of collecting metal with my body, or use it for permanent graffiti. Also piercings are not a smart idea for someone who gets several MRI scans each year.

I myself have the problem with hard to hit veins as well. But I have to give blood each week regardless. A simple procedure which should take 5 minutes often requires more than an hour and leaves me with plenty of new holes.

I have O negative blood (universal donor) and I'm a big guy, which means I am a prime candidate for what they call "double red". They take 2 units of my blood. It goes into a machine, and the machine separates the red cells from the plasma. The machine then pumps the plasma back in me. So the whole process takes much longer than simply dumping a pint of blood into a collection bag.

I used to donate regularly. They'd call me, begging me to come in, when my interval elapsed. But lately, they have stopped because they don't like the fact that I fly to Belize and other "malarial" countries, despite the fact that my stopover is 40 minutes on the airport for fuel before turning for home. I've tried to explain this to them - I'm not roaming the jungle or anything - but they now reject my blood. Their loss, I liked donating and was happy to do it.

Needles are a breeze, plus I get a cup of tea, a biscuit and a lie down

I got a tattoo, which I had it done in college.....and over-rated experience.

Needles never bothered me and if I have an ailment, I always prefer the needle over pills, which take godawful time to work.

As far as giving blood, never did it.

And why am I not surprised that a thread involving blood had to be started by Tarek......

    Miss your ex?

Wife used to for extra money. I earn more money working than laying around bleeding. There is no shortage here, so therefore, my reasoning would have to be for the cash, so therefore there is no moral dilemma.

You guys get paid to donate blood? That sort of defeats the purposes of donating, doesn't it?

I thought in the USA it was illegal to get paid to donate red blood cells, as that was considered a form of organ donation, but plasma is OK to get paid for... not true?
