Why is Jack Hanna Receiving Death Threats? - Yahoo! News
COMMENTARY | Stupidity is compounding the tragedy of the exotic animals incident in Zanesville, Ohio. Columbus Zoo honorary director Jack Hanna received death threats relating to his role in the efforts to capture the wild animals released from the exotic farm by Terry Thompson. Hanna has long been an advocate for animal care and welfare not just in his native Ohio, but around the world. How ignorant are the fanatics making such threats? Advocating a human death in opposition to the unfortunate animal shootings boggles the mind.
As Hanna stated during news conferences, tranquilizing the animals was not a viable option and he supported the efforts to keep community members safe. Anyone with armed with even a tiny bit of knowledge about Hanna's life-long commitment to animals should realize he made a tough choice in the interest of preservation of both human and animal lives. Both Hanna and Muskingum County Sheriff stated it can take up to 20 minutes for a tranquilizer dart to bring down a lion or bear. Tracking the a large number of animals through densely wooded areas and neighborhoods with the hope that the dart was direct hit was not a safe option.
Even after the death threats, Hanna has remained a man of conscious and continued to offer his support for the "shoot to kill" order issued by the local sheriff. Area farmers were fearful of losing their livestock to the escaped animals. During a news conference last night Hanna shared a heart wrenching story about losing his best friend in 1974 while attempting to recapture five escaped lions. The man was veterinarian trying to tranquilize a tiger which leaped fifteen feet and killed Hanna's friend who was trying to aid the animal.
The law enforcement officers were placed in a tragic position and did not approach the task lightly. None of them wanted to go home and explain to their children why they just shot Simba and Nala. The deputies didn't behave like a bunch of wealthy hunters on a private safari. Ohio's exotic animal laws have needed reform for decades. Even the expired Strickland executive order worthy organizations like Born Free USA are touting would have made no difference. Terry Thompson's wife Marian loved exotic animals as well and could have simply secured a permit since she had no previous animal related violations and kept the collection intact in the same location.
To sit down with these men and deal with them as the representatives of an enlightened and civilized people is to deride ones own dignity and to invite the disaster of their treachery - General Matthew Ridgway

I just ordered this print yesterday to go on my wall by the computer. My missus is going to get a rabbit fur scarf soon. So, so soft. There is also coyote fur on her Canada Goose jacket hood. When I move back to Vancouver I'm not going to hide what it's made of either. I expect some good fun out of it.
