ACLU - opinions

What are your opinions on the ACLU?

IMO, they stand for good but sometimes they take things to seriously or ignore certin things. Just yesterday they reffered to my neighboring counties's corrections officers as Nazis and compared them to the SS. Yeah, they cpmpared 900 people over the actions of 8 over an incident that occured several years ago (ill inmate was beaten when he asked for his medicine).

I am writing in response to "The great escape" [Editorial, April 17]. There was a quote from Barbara Bernstein, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union. She was quoted as saying "it was a concentration camp before," referring to the Nassau County Correctional Center.

As a correction officer with the Nassau County Sheriffs Department, and a person of the Jewish faith, I find this comparison utterly deplorable. First and foremost, it is a direct insult to me, as well as the other officers employed at the correctional center to be put in the same light as an SS officer.

The atrocities that occurred in the real concentration camps at the hands of the Nazi regime are in no way carried out in this institution. I believe Bernstein speaks from misinformation, and an immediate apology is due to the fine officers of the Nassau County Sheriff's Department.

I subscribe to the school of thought that says that now that everybody has their civil rights chugging along just fine, the ACLU is wasting a lot of peoples' time and money.

If you are a minority, then the ACLU will be more than happy to help you (depending on the issue of course). If you are white-bread American, don't even waste your time telling them how your civil rights were violated. They flat-out don't care.

Agreed. The ACLU has become an extremely racist group, that campaigns against the majority population. If they were for everyone's rights, then they would be OK in my book, however they are not.

Couldent agree more

What I dont understand is why they hate Christians so much, yet they campaign to protect the rights of Muslims.

The ACLU was a good idea that was hijacked and perverted to the point of lunacy. It should be abolished along with the united nations.

The problem with 'crusaders' is that even after they meet the goal they've crusaded for, they need to find a new goal to keep themselves busy.

The more goals they meet, the more ridiculous their next goal becomes.

What you end up with, is the ACLU...
