I thought the definition of a brew was natural fermentation, not distillation or "spiking" with grain alcohol. You can probably simulate this "beer" by adding the most neutral vodka you can find to a regular stout or similar, or adding Everclear...

The yeast which produce alcohol during fermentation die somewhere in the teens, like 15% alcohol, IIRC.

So is it beer, or some sort of crafted liqueur?

I'm sure one would be dancing in the streets with penguins after finishing a bottle of that stuff...but super-proof beer seems like a waste of time to me, sure everybody will buy a bottle to try it out, but who will continually buy the stuff in enough numbers (Tankie aside) to keep it profitable?
