    For the Yanks

If you were to be European, which nationality would you choose to be?

    Would it matter?

I guess I'd go with my father's side, and be an Italian. Hungarians seem pretty cool though. They still have names like Bela and Vladimir. Yeah, maybe Hungarian.

That statement alone indicates you aren't European!

Hmm...Swiss. Neutral, doesn't offend too many people, and nice place. Preferrably living around Lausanne as that area is quite beautiful and the people there are very nice.
Am out of town for a while and then have tons of work coming up at school. Will be back once that's all done.

Swiss. They are the only european country that has sane gun laws. Love the geography. Though I do love italian food. I guess Italy is not too far of a drive.

It is extremely difficult to buy a gun in Britain, I think that is rather sensible. In fact, handguns are completely banned and the only people allowed to own shotguns, rifles, etc are those who need them for their jobs e.g. farmers, gamekeepers, etc and those who use them for hunting or competitive sports. Even in those last cases I believe that it is rather difficult to obtain a gun, requiring several checks by the police, interviews and in some cases an assessment by a psychiatrist.

Air guns could soon be banned too.

Switzerland is a beautiful country, but extremely expensive.

I will never relinquish my American residency and certainly not my citizenship.... If i HAD to live in Europe it would probobly be Switzerland.... I would say Britan if the Brits weren't so damn obcessed with gun control.

Having had several past cases of gun massacres and people being shot and the fact that we have an army to protect us from external threats, it was decided that very few people actually need to own a gun, hence most of them were banned. Since gun related crimes have fallen since then, I assume that it has had some positive impact on preserving life.

If I weren't British then being Swedish would be rather tempting, probbaly for the same reasons that you have.

Europe is all the same stuff to me, anywhere as long as I'm rich, so I can buy my right to own a gun.

Certainly, but all other weapons have increased in frequency. Gun bans don't reduce violent crime, they just remove peoples' abilty to defend themselves.

They have, there was never much gun crime involving rifles. Currently the weapon of choice is a knife, but there looks to be new laws on the cards for those too.

There are approximately sixty to seventy gun related deaths per year at the moment.
