So I'm naive for believing both of those things?

I suppose deluding oneself that owning a gun is to oppose the possible rise of a tyrant is rather funny, it certainly is from where I'm standing.
Well I'm not going to make the argument that I can stop a mechanized infantry squad with my own collection of smallarms, but that's hardly the point these days. Our Founding Fathers wanted a nation of courageous men and granted the government only so much power over us. I am mature enough to know that I can own (and carry) a gun and use it in the unlikely circumstance of danger to life and limb, or in the more unlikely circumstance of Uncle Sam getting out of control and me needing to stand up.

In more colloquial terms, I'm nobody's doormat.

Since we're yakking about gun laws now, how about this article on a subject that never gets any fair treatment: "Good Samaritan" gun use.

    Here.

And just because I love to make the antigun folks feel a little squirrellly, here's why my friends joke about coming to my house when the Zombie Uprising occurs:

I guess I REALLY won't be going to Europe to live anytime soon huh?

Thanks, but sadly it's not really mine. A buddy of mine in the USAF sold it to me (yes folks, all legal-like ) while he is stationed in Norway. Hopefully he'll "forget" to have me sell it back to him when he gets back.

    Excuses to Mods,

C'mon ghilly jocko. You must be blind as fucking Blunket. You do not live in the same bloody world let alone fucking nation as I. You have swallowed spin like a Cally Road brass with some scrote who's just finished 10 bird.

You are utterly deluded. I should say "****" an awful lot more, but your seeming esteem for Winston must be considered a mitigating factor if not an educating one

I REALLY am miffed and shocked. Sorry.

    ... I'd live in Wales

and I dunno about the UK, but personal crime has gone up in Australia since 96. I'd say it has more to do with society than guns though. Still, gun control is flawed.

Hence excuses and appologies in advance. Forgive me for merely being frankly astounded. Mortified even. As a Metroplitan Londoner I could not help but find myself appoplectic with both rage and rightious disbelief. Or the converse. Both work for me.

Ignorance does make ones blood boil at times. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/n...re/3732706.stm
Seems some have not been informed of the banning of guns.

You know, I just checked again and once again, none of my guns jumped off of their hooks or out of their holsters and fired themselves.

    Amazing, that.

I'm in total agreement. The only thing that possibly makes me think that a fellow Brit could say something so dumb is either he is under the influence of whisky (and I'm not accusing Scots of being alcoholics) or, even worse, he's a socialist.

    I do have a solution.

1/ Get every British male between the ages of 21 and 35.

2/ To these people, issue the following after 6 weeks of national service:
    • 1x SA80-A2.
    • 1x SUSAT.
    • 1x cleaning kit.
    • 1x magazine.
    • 30x NATO 5.56mm Ball ammo.
    • 1x DP clothing, complete, with boots (pair).

3/ Pass laws requiring that said male is responsible for kit.

    Problem solved.

In other words, let's take a lesson from the Swiss. They seem to be nice Europeans.....

Think about it though, just 6 weeks.

That's probably just enough to learn the NSP drills, how to march, how to salute, and fire off a few rounds. You could fit it in between school and uni!

I have no objection. I would like to add banking and tax. One stop shop.
