I usuallly do not like criticizing ppl because of their beliefs and traditions.but this one attracted my attention and seems highly dangerous.

WTF are they doing, and more importantly what does it signify? I take it if the babies don`t bounce there a wrongun, unbelievable, by the way did`nt Micheal Jackson get slated for holding his baby out of a window, on a scale of one to ten how bad is this, and I take it the guy being interviewed is justifying the ceremony, we have an expression for people like him over here ????????

It is a minaret from a dargah - a Sufi shrine, so I presume it has some sort of symbolism connected to the life and/or works of the Sufi saint connected to it. From the little I could understand of the reporter from the noise and the accent, it appears that it has something to do with ensuring health of the baby Couldn't understand a word of what the man said, but the language was Marathi. Superstitious bumpkin, is the expression I believe you are looking for. But hey, apparently no child has gotten hurt... yet... so I can think of a thousand worse things regularly practiced ritually all over the world. Just another sorry addition to the list.

It is a ritual that must be stopped by law.

It can affect the child and may have done so, but then these people would not have known thinking it to be a Divine visitation!!
