    Lost 5?

This time at the Hamburg Airport - did you see that Luftwaffe pilot bring home that plane in the crosswinds.

If I was on that plane the crosswinds would have been inside the cabin....

    Yes.

    It was something real worrisome!

Yes indeed.....apparently strong cross winds account for quite a few "near misses". The pilot was quick in getting power to the engines, and get it up into the air again...top marks

This is why I refuse to fly. Every loose nut, every chipped piece of wire, every bad pilot on the planet, are all just waiting for me to plunk my middle aged butt into any seat for my one way ride to instant disintegration. Every time the landing gear is retracted all one can hear is my girlie squeal of fear as they thump into place. I get sweaty just talking about flying. Had I been on that flight in question, there would have been leakage for sure.

When Concorde crashed it was horrific, a passer-by in a car caught it on his mobile [cellphone] I watched it on TV the day it happened, it blew up in a huge fireball, at first it was thought one of the tyres had exploded, but apparently a piece of wire on the runway was sucked into one of the air intakes, afterwards runways around the world were examined & all had a lot of bits & pieces strewn across from then on they were swept far more often, so you guys can relax as you jet off to the Caribbean!

Wind shear poses the greatest risk to an aircraft during take-off or landing.

A particularly dangerous form is vertical wind shear (also known as a microburst), where wind suddenly reverses from blowing upwards to a downward direction, creating a downward force on the aircraft.

I wouldn't like to know that was happening 30' off the ground Apparently there are Wind Shear Detectors available and I wonder if the Pilot or the Tower had used it? No doubt we will find out what happened when all the "washing" has been done

The name of the thread is "Lost" because of that series where a plane crashes and the survivors have to try and survive the island.
