That is an amazing, thoughtful and very nice gesture to the fallen and their families.

    Cheers.

    12th Day of Christmas

    Our Christmas Tree.
    Our Christmas Card pix.

Well here it is, the last day of Christmas and time to take the tree down.
The Twelfth Night is January 5th, the last day of the Christmas Season before Epiphany (January 6th). In some church traditions, January 5th is considered the eleventh Day of Christmas, while the evening of January 5th is still counted as the Twelfth Night, the beginning of the Twelfth day of Christmas the following day. Twelfth Night often included feasting along with the removal of Christmas decorations. French and English celebrations of Twelfth Night had a King's Cake, remembering the visit of the Three Magi, and ale or wine (a King's Cake is part of the observance of Mardi Gras in French Catholic culture of the Southern USA). In some cultures, the King's Cake was part of the celebration of the day of Epiphany.

Sad to see the end of the Christmas Season but onward to Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc......

You've got to hand it to the Americans, when they do something they don't muck around. The way they honour their fallen is nothing short of amazing.
    Well done.

    Christmas in Oz

We had Christmas Lunch and Dinner at home this year with friends. Boxing day, we went to Eden, (yep, that's the name of the town), for a week, was a piece of Eden too. The weather was great, every day was above 35 deg c. We stayed at a Caravan park called the Garden of Eden. We swam, fished and boated every day. NOT A DROP OF SNOW ANYWHERE. The overnight temp never got below 20 deg c. The drive there was eventful, I hit a Kangaroo late Boxing night and rearranged the front of the car. Kangaroos are the natural enemy of cars. A few of us went to Golf one day and had to shoo the roos off every green before we could put. I've come to the conclusion that Golf, while is is a great game, really stuffs up a good walk. My handicap is myself.

A good way to do the conversion from F to C is to double the C number, subtract 10%, add 32 (being F above 0) and that gives you a fairly close conversion.

I've always wondered what a White Christmas would be like, the closest we've had here was when we had a hailstorm in 1967, so bad the cat was killed when golf ball size hailstones knocked it off the fence.

Normally, Christmas day here consists of Presents early then out to the back yard to make sure they work, have Christmas lunch with all the rello's and friends, eat way too much and by 2.30, flake out on a spare bed or the lounge for a well earned sleep. Wake up at about 3.30, back out to the back yard for a game of Back yard Test Cricket until the call for Dinner. Argue over dinner who made the most runs and try to push the blame onto some one else for next doors broken window. Eat way too much at dinner and at about 10.00 wander off home. For the next four days, at least, every meal consists of Cold Left Over's.

Up early Boxing to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race

Eden is the last stop off point if needed before the yachts enter Bass Straight for the run to Hobart,

A good time was had by all, we ate too much, drank too much and all got way too much sun.

Maybe a few of you from the Northern Hemisphere should come down for Christmas one year.

The pic shows the campsite we overran.
