Okay let me take a bite at this. The very first women to have her name on the cup was one Lily Murphy, whos name was "scratched", on the side of the bowl most likely the work of her banker hubby who was vaguely involved with the early Ottawa team. The first official womens name to appear is Marguerite Norris, the Prez of the 55 Red Wings. Sorry but I did cheat and look it up cause I just had to know. Now, back to the Leafs. Last night it was 56 shots and a loss? The usual 3rd period collapse has done wonders for my left eye twitch. Kind of matches the pulseing vein on my forehead. Serenity now....Serenity now.....

The site legensofhockey.net states:
• First Woman Officially Engraved on Cup: Marguerite Norris (President of the Detroit Red Wings 1954 & 1955) • Women Engraved on Cup: 1. Marguerite Norris (1954, 1955) 2. Sonia Scurfield (Calgary, 1989) 3. Marie Denise DeBartolo York (Pittsburgh, 1991) 4. Marian Ilitch (Detroit 1997, 1998, 2002) 5. Denise Ilitch Lites (Detroit 1997, 1998, 2002) 6. Lisa Ilitch Murray (Detroit 1997, 1998, 2002) 7. Carole Ilitch (Detroit 1997, 1998, 2002) 8. Marie Carnevale (New Jersey, 2000) 9. Callie Smith (New Jersey, 2000) 10. Charlotte Grahame (Colorado, 2001) 11. Nancy Beard (Detroit, 2002) 12. Susan Samueli (Anaheim, 2007) Yahoo! answer says thirteen ... I've met Denise DeBartlo York numerous times and she is a peach of a person, a lot of class. Now that I think, about it she may be the only person in history to own two major league sports teams that have won championships. This should be an easy one, what is the other team she owned and earned a Super Bowl Championship with?

There are actually 3 Stanley Cups I believe. The first was the original purchased by Lord Stanley and has sinced retired due to years of use and the fragile state after, well, hundreds of hockey players' abuse. The second is the one awarded right now. The third is the replica that goes on public display. I maybe wrong on the 3rd one. But at least the players get to keep the real one (2nd cup) for a day.

Crosby shootout in Buffalo
Thought you might enjoy. The Game of a Lifetime. Pens vs Sabres. Outside. Cold. Sloppy Ice. Flurries, sleet then flurries. Throw in the wind chill. Hot blooded hockey playing at its finest. It's the end of Regulation Play.
Overtime. It comes down to a shootout with Crosby. He lines up the puck, takes a deep breath, pushes off with total control, and wham bam ladies and gentleman, Elvis has just left the building! Whhoooo Hooooo. Pens win and Crosby scores the winning goal. Yeah! I hope his name is on the Cup someday. PS--we're such old Pens fans that we still own those same blue team Jerseys they wore to commemorate days of yesteryear! |

So I read some tidbits on hockey last night. Florida defenseman Jassen Cullimore scored in overtime recently. That was only his 22nd goal in his 15 year career. However, 7 of the 22 goals were game winners. Out of the other 15 goals, 2 were shorthanders. This guy really makes them count, doesn't he?

This is going to be a very nice match. Although both teams are on different ends. Anaheim's game plan is to win the cup, whereas Toronto's is to make the playoffs. Sadly the game won't be broadcast on TSN or cbc, so i'm counting on my satellite to air the Anaheim game.

Wow, that's the best I've ever seen from big Bert. He's an exceptional stick handler for someone that size.
How do you like the Getzlaf line with Bertuzzi and Corey Perry? The best kept secret in NHL. |

Bertuzzi is fitting in at the right time now. He's a much better player than Dustin Penner, but when Penner was with getzlaf and perry they were unstoppable. Its a perfect fit for bertuzzi, while he's STILL coming out of his shell, from the you know what incident, the young guys can carry him. It'll be a matter of a few more weeks, right before playoffs when he'll just become the Todd we all fell in love with. |
