New Zealand burglar returns loot, apologizes to victim

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- A burglar visited Graeme Glass' home in New Zealand twice in one day, first to steal some goods and later to return them -- along with a heartfelt apology note.

The thief struck while Glass was at work in the southern resort of Queenstown on Tuesday.

The burglar smashed a window to gain entry and made off with a laptop computer, a camera, and Glass's wallet with an American Express credit card.

The thief returned the goods later in the day, along with a new basketball and two pairs of gloves bought on the stolen credit card.

Glass and his wife Shirley discovered the loot piled on their kitchen table with a neat, handwritten full-page note from the burglar saying he was sorry for "violating the safety and security of your home."

The robber also promised to leave cash in Glass' mailbox to pay for the smashed window when he had enough money.

"I have never written truer words when I say that I wish that I had never done this to you and your family," the note read. "From the bottom of my heart I am sorry."

Queenstown police said they have a description of the thief from staff in the stores where the credit card was used.
When this story ran up here there was an addition to it.
It reported that the burglar came back a third time, and left a couple of hundred dollars to pay for any damge he might have cause.
Here's a guy who; if caught, should be given a lenient sentence!

Pari...this is what you guys have for thieves?I'd not only give the guy a light sentence,I'd probably give him a job. He's got a conscience which is more than I can say for most politicians .

Perhaps the man is a respectable person who's down on his luck and pretty desparate, but his own conscience came back to him.

On a more serious note, we've got a murderer on the loose. I wouldn't post this here except that the murderer has fled to Los Angeles or beyond.
Yes I realize it's a big place, but if any of you by chance recognise this man

named as Nai Yin Xue, he is wanted for murdering his estranged wife (pictured), abducting his daughter (pictured), and then dumping her in a Melbourne railway station before leaving for LA.

You never know....

This story was on the TV news here, along with security footage showing the little girl wandering around the railway station. What a heartless monster he is

Any idea of the reasons/motives/possible illnesses he suffers Pari, or has it come up in the NZ media yet?

The man is clearly not right in the head.

This thread has actually convinced me to look at NZ as one of the places where I might settle down. The only problem seems to be finding jobs. I would be completing Ph.D. in Cell Biology. I went through the Career Columns of a few colleges and universities and found only 2 job openings that are suitable for me.

The man is clearly not right in the head.
He has a history of domestic violence, and his businesses were failing.
As is often the case, it's emerged that after being separated, he recently convinced her to move back in. Forensics aren't out but I guess he beat her to death.

Pari,

I saw this on news yesterday, where it was reported that mother was missing. Is she dead?

How can a dad do this to his own child?

he killed the mother and stuffed her body in the boot of his car. He then took the little girl and went to the airport in his deceased wifes car, flew with his daughter to Melbourne and abandoned her in the railway station before flying on to LA.

BREAKING NEWS: Wanted fugitive Nai Yin Xue has been captured in Atlanta this morning.

Commander Tom Hession of the US Marshals confirmed to Radio New Zealand's Nine to Noon programme that he was apprehended at approximately 8.30am.

Nai Xin Xue, 54, is wanted in connection with the death of his wife, Anan Liu, 27, whose body was found in the boot of a car in Auckland on 18 September. He took their three-year-old child from Auckland to Melbourne on 13 September.

Qian Xun Xue, known as 'Pumpkin', was abandoned at the Southern Cross railway station in Melbourne on 15 September. Her father then travelled to the United States.

US Marshals revealed last week there was a sighting of him in Houston, Texas, in October, another in Mississippi in January and more recently in Mobile, Alabama. He was reportedly travelling in a blue Ford Thunderbird car with a Texas number plate.
