    Figmo!!!

Well, my idyll in Florida is almost over.

Lt. Bluesman has gotten our assignment: Travis AFB, CA. Her report-no-later-than-date is 31 July, so we'll be outta here @ 30 June. She'll be in skool starting 16 April down in San Antonio, learning how to be a whip-smart operating room nurse.

Not sure how I feel about it all yet. One thing is shaping up as pretty sure, though: I need to find another job. My company doesn't have anything for me out there. I may go from being the dirty, godless, scum-sucking contractor puke that I am to a pure-hearted, virtuous and principled GS servant-of-the-people.

This is how it goes, people: she followed me all over the dam' world for 16 years, we were both in at the same time for @ three, and now it's all about her career, for the next 15 years. Which is only fair. So, instead of staying in my fine, beloved little house-on-the-lake, with all of our improvements and personal touches...we're going to buy some outrageously-overpriced crackerbox in one of the most psychotically-beset places in the Union (which it is one of the United States, even if that fact embarasses the locals as much as it embarrasses ME. ) We'll be surrounded by creatures that won't respect us, and whom I could never respect, either, which ought to make it just a CHARMING tour of tension and homesickness, even as we try to make it our home.

Well, she never whined when she had to do it for me, and by Gawd, she'll never hear it from ME when I do it for HER. She's worth setting up housekeeping in freakin' Tehran, if that's what her duty demands, and I swear to All Celestial Power that I will make her secure, happy and as sure as a human can be that I've got her back, all the way to Cali-godddam'-fornia and out again, whenever that happens to be.

You want to see what loyalty and devotion in a military spouse looks like? Come visit us, and watch me cook your steak with a smile and an unkillable determination to make the very best of whatever this tour throws down. Because I'm tough enough to love our life together wherever I am, as long as she's there, too.

    We're invincible.

    Oh bloody hell....

Travis? They just had to catapult you to the other side of the continent didn't they?

Couldn't have sent you to Eglin or something.

Gotta together well before June bro...

Hey Bluesman, it won't be so bad, just stay out of San Francisco, lol.

Seriously, that part of California is really nice. You might actually like it!

Bluesman -- I don't think there is a woman out there who wouldn't swoon at your feet and more than likely, your wife still does. More importantly - a man who wouldn't whine - you are worth your weight in gold. You'll see, will be making enemies in the new place in no time!

Dudes...did you know that Fairfield is also the home of JellyBelly?

Travis is known as the 'Gateway to the Pacific', because it's the largest airlift port in the US. Want to go to Hawaii? Ten Yankee dollars gets you there with 100 lbs. of t-shirts, flip-flops, jamms, SexWax surfboard polish and room left over in the traps fer yer 'tude, dude, 'cuz a flight leaves ever' dam' day, bound fer Hickalulu Airplane Patch.

Hells, this is gonna be AWESOME!

(I peeked at the online California translator; I pick this biznitch up, no slo mo' skates, no whut ah meen, cheef? Gotta be able to commune wit' mah town's 'n' mah wahinis, yo.)

Seriously, I'm warming up to this. We're going to have a fine tour.

And Napa Valley, Valley of the Moon, and Armstrong Woods. And Laguna Seca Raceway, Sears Point Raceway, the Monterey Concourse and Historic Car races, if your into that. I spent a year at Travis at David Grant Medical Center (staff, not a patient). To paraphrase W.C. Fields, California is a wonderful place. In fact, it's too good for the people who live there.
The more I think about it, ol' Billy was right.
