Marquez: You know your signature is a perfect example of the difference between apples and oranges. You say war is too serious to be left up to the military. Yet every war that we have been involved in that was dictatorily controlled by Congress -- we lost -- with Viet Nam as the most perfect example.

Even the first Gulf war in Iraq. It was politicians that stopped our advance at the magic number of 111 hours. If they had kept their noses out of it and let our military do what it is trained to do, we wouldn't be there today.

Even my screen name is a case where Battleships still in service would be sweet apples to me. But I have to accept the fact that they are now all spoiled oranges and doing my best to keep them from the scrappers torch.

Hmmmm. French Tricolor on the fantail. Big carrier. I assume it's the Charles DeGaulle. There is an item in Google that describes that ship as "How NOT to build an Aircraft Carrier".

So if it was DeGaulle that said that, well I'm not surprised. Obviously I'm not a DeGaulle fan. For that matter, there are not too many people today that are fans of the French government, DeGaulle or not.

Actually, judging from the superstructure, I'd guess that's the Clemenceau, and that quote sounds just like something he would say.

When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. Apples? Oranges?

This depends. From Mickey D's one can get Apple Dippers, which are pre-peeled apple pieces that come with a side of caramel dip.

But oranges are good too. I just dont like the seeds in them.

How about a Hawaiian salad that has apples, oranges, pineapple, coconut AND mini marshmallows?

Try Navel Oranges. They're seedless.
