Also, after just having voted (with all my candidates winning, by the way), I'm purty jazzed about the whole democracy thang. Voting is dead SEXY, baby! YEAH!!!

    Hmm. Five?

    1) Resilience. It's written into our Constitution - the Founding Fathers didn't believe in free lunches and as long as we keep that basic point in mind I think we'll do okay.

    2) Openness. Bloated bile-spewing gasbags like Michael Moore can weave together anti-American screeds one after another, each more vile and delusive than the last, make a big buck off of paying customers, and never ever ever have to worry about black sedans pulling up to his house at 3am to whisk him off to some dank basement for the rest of his short life.

    3) Identity. America stands for something: liberty. It doesn't always live up to the strictest standards of that vision, but we try - we always try. I've learned that relatively few citizens from other countries believe their countries stand for anything or indeed should stand for anything. I think this works against them.

    4) Power. This nation can be picked at by cave-dwelling barbarians for a while or outright annihilated by a nuclear power like Russia, but it can never be overpowered.

    5) Variety. Geographically, culturally, and socially, we've got a little bit of everything.

The greatest thing of the US is GW Bush.

Believe it or not, he is good for India.

I may not agree with his ways, but he is the best bet for India.

So, GW Bush is the 5 greatest things to me.

    "1. Democracy"

The US isn't a democracy you know.

    "5. US Army"

    That just hurts. :(

Without the US Army this nation would still be a british colony....

I was under the impression we fought for a democratic government. Secondly, without capitalism, how would be be able to finance such a strong military? Thirdly, I only was given 5 choices to list.

"I was under the impression we fought for a democratic government."

We fought for freedom from the Brits. At the time of the DOI, we had no idea what form the Gov't would eventually take- just that we'd be independent. The US is a representitive repbulic, we are not a democracy(thank God).

"Secondly, without capitalism, how would be be able to finance such a strong military?"

Without capiltalism we'd not be able to finance much at all, so your point is well taken.

"Thirdly, I only was given 5 choices to list."

For democracy what you really meant was "Freedom"

The USMC and USAF- while noble organizations- did not win the first two things on your list.....the United States Army and United States Navy did.

I'm not up to speed on the military that is why I tend to stay away from those threads. I was using present day importance, not 200 years ago. SO EXCUSE THE HECK OUTTA ME.

We fought to get away from the British because of heavy taxation. Democracy is representative of Freedom, but if it is Freedom you want listed then by gosh you got it!

    1. FREEDOM
    2. CAPITALISM
    3. US ARMY
    4. USAF
    5. USMC

    IN THAT ORDER.

By the way, the person starting this thread knows there are many more than 5 things that is great about America and that makes America great, why only 5?
