I sent the above story to all in my address book and received this back from Basil Duncan who was in the 4th Mar Div during WW ll.
Thank you Vaughn for sending me this article. I will admit, now that I'm older, that I cried for this young man and his family and friends. My mind went back as it often does thses days, to one day our "Doc" covered me with his body to protect me from taking any more rounds. His name was Parnell and I will never forget him. The last time I sawhim he was still doing the job all Corpsmen do, risking his life for his marines. In my mind our corpsmen always performed above and beyond their normak duty. I know and believe this because I saw it in action time and time again. A couple of years back we elected one of our Docs to the office of President of the Fighting Fourth Association simply because he was one of the best "Marines" in the division.
Thnnks again.
Basil
