Being a Brit, I do not know enough about the US political parties to say for sure, but here in the UK the very first act the incoming government passed was the banning of handguns. I think the Democratic party is the most closely aligned to the New Labour party we currently suffer under. At the time it was claimed that gun crime would plummet. I'm sure you can guess what actually happened. There has been a significant increase in gun crime. I, along with many other law abiding licenced pistol shooters, was deprived of my hobby. I think this is an instance of the Salami Slice in action. Now there is talk of banning rifles and airguns, and severely limiting shotgun ownership. Yes, that's fun-filled Britain today. America next? I hope not.

For what little it appears to be worth, we DO still have the Second Ammendment that would make an absolute ban of handguns difficult, if not impossible.

You know what they say, the Constitution is a "living, breathing" document. The liberals will remove 2nd Amendment without a thought if they can possibly do it.

The Democrats are generally opposed to private firearms ownership, so yes, i would say that more democrats= more trouble for gun owners.

That's why I'm independent. Because both parties are simply awful. I think I'm pretty clever by voting for independent parties.

Except that they have no chance of winning. That simply makes you a potential spoiler in some elections, ineffective in others.

With only two main parties to vote for you can't say the choice is all that great! The UK has in effect been a 2 party system for over 80 years. The third party has been out of power for all that time. This has led on occasion to some pretty unholy alliances when the 3rd party hitches up with one of the other main parties. The public mood may be on the change, as more parties than ever are standing at election time. Independents can get elected to the Commons, but tend to be rather ineffective in Parliament as there are so few of them. Sadly, it is a numbers game - and money. The big parties can afford TV advertising and big campaigns, the others cant. In my view we need proportional representation, and the banning of advertising. The press should allow each candidate a certain amount of space each, and no more. Regional TV should also allow each candidate equal time. Ah, I can dream....

I think it's clever to register Independent but rather dim to vote that way. Vote to get your guys/views into the primaries, then support your party. Change from within.
