Debbie you are turning into a Lumberjack. I have visions of you in blue coveralls, a check shirt, axe over the shoulder looking at those trees saying, through a plug a Tobaccy, "Trees, come make my day"

Just out of curiosity, what sort of wood do you burn? Hard wood or soft wood?

We use a native timber called Red Gum. Australian Hardwood Network

A very dense timber that burns very slowly. If trying to start a fire with Red Gum, It's like trying burn steel. It's used for railway sleepers (ties) because it is so dense.

It's very expensive to buy Red Gum firewood, about $130.00 a ton. It creates a lot of heat.

The US planted a lot of Eucalyptus around LA but found that while it's a great source of timber, it becomes a problem in bushfires.

The Blue Mountains just out of Sydney are called the Blue Mountains because the Eucalypt trees give off Eucalyptus vapor that burns very well. Sometimes fire will run over the top of forests just on the vapor. When the tree burns, more vapor is released fueling the fire.

Great trees but a drama in a bushfire.

Oak, Elm, Birch, Green Ash, Maple, Plum, Lilac, Box Elder, Hackberry rounded out this years choosings. Pine I keep around to put on the ground and put other wood on top of it or it gets burned outside. Cedar gets used for kindling along with bark that falls off and small wood scraps.

Last year in San Francisco was the first time I came across the Eucalyptus tree. The smell was wonderful.

Haven't been able to find the Cheetos X's and O's in the stores lately. My student assistants and I used to play tic-tac-toe with them on slow days in the office.

Well Debbie did mention that the weather was a bit dull and snowy so I relented and made sure she was positively cocooned in warmth. So the 15 stays until Helios returns

A tad of retail therapy sounds like the ideal antidote
