What gave you the idea that Firral was mocking Americans? I did not get that impression and I am a US citizen.

I was making sure what he meant about all the American flags popping up after September 11th.

And I asked him before saying something to Bluesman and Shek, maybe also digging up a crime scene photo of one of the WTC jumpers that I saw online.

Waving a few American flags does not replicate the symbolism the May day parade displays. The two are not comparable, in any way.
Now, a parade with flags but without Tanks, then that is something closer.
Tradition? Of course it is traditional. A celebration of victory over the Nazi`s could easily be toasted by a representation of the units involved, just the people, not the hardware. The addition of the hardware is unnecessary in terms of remembrance alone. Cultural differences?

The hardware displays a firm message, thinly veiled amongst the flags and wreath laying. The parade seems firmly double edged to me and always has been.

But one funny thing met the eye - if all Dessantniki/Naval inf. and so on soldiers were 180-190cm. and in top form , the generals leading them were quite .... err... out of shape ?

IMO, I believe the Russian people were sincerely celebrating May Day (is that what its called?) but the addition of new/updated Topol-M ICBMs was purely political and for the international community. It became a tradition hijacked by the politicians in order to assert and solidify Russia's reemergence as a world power, no doubt about that .
