Militaries are made up of members of a society, soldiers bring their cultural and individual idiosyncracies with them, im sure some of that gets busted out of them in basic. There is no reason why you cannot have an influence on the way an individual thinks and acts, governments do it all the time to promote cohesion in a society. As soldiers are members of a society its likely to be the same for them, combat stress or not. Or are you suggesting that training does nothing, and when soldiers come under combat stress they behave like idiots and ignore all common sense and training. Your military experience gives you no right to shove your disgust of my suggestion into my face like that. The social aspects i mentioned and govenrment promotion of society is my field of knowledge, i doubt you have it over me on that one. Only a dope would go around dismissing everything he sees that doesnt fit his scope of knowledge because he arrogantly presumes he knows everything. Only a dope would would act that way at a mere suggestion in an open conversation. |

Put a bunch of 20 year old kids in a firefight for a week straight. Have all their officers and senior NCMs shot off. Then, face them with the absolute certainty that they will die within 10 hours. Put a woman in there and she's raped. There are no ifs, ands, or buts with it. Quote:

PaulG,
Combat is a little difficult to understand than what is stated in novels and films. In war and even in personal anecdotes of those who have fought never reveals the truth. There is bravery. There is cowardice (rarely spoken about) and massive flaps that somehow solves itself. When a soldier states something, I reckon he knows what he is talking about or at least nearest the truth. I have fought three officially declared wars. Were they what is written or spoken about? Maybe and maybe not! ![]() Last edited by Ray : 11-30-2004 at 14:06 PM. |

Horrido: I really want to just delete this post, but I'll leave it up for at least a little bit in case anyone has a question why PaulG was banned. It wasn't for his views, but for his inability to control himself, vulgar language, and insults towards OoE. Lunatock: Seems about right to me. You got yourself another confirmed kill, they always seem to shadow OOE. One less person that has no respect for the concept of staying on topic. Btw. How are the Eagles doing this year Snipe? ![]() Last edited by Lunatock : 11-30-2004 at 16:14 PM. |

Combat is all the emotions known to man rolled into one, magnified and intensified by a factor of 1000, and compressed into a situation of little sleep and often little food.

"Not worth reading."
None of that changes the fact that you have no frame of reference upon which to base your theories. The military is unlike any other civilian social setting. That's just a fact. BTW, nice internet bravery. Last edited by Horrido : 11-30-2004 at 15:54 PM. |
