Douglas Wood rescued

Douglas Wood, the Australian citizen/US resident held hostage in Iraq, has been rescued in a joint Iraqi/US raid. There have been claims that the terrorists left him at a prearranged location. News article linked below.

I sure do hope the part about 'no ransom was paid' is true. I wouldn't think the Aussies are of that stripe, but political pressure on a politician can see some dark moments.

But they've been stalwart so far, so I'm inclined to believe it.

There has been no domestic political pressure in Australia to acquiesce to any ransom demand so I think it highly unlikely that this would the case.

True, there weren't. But when a significant portion of your electorate wants out of the war, and you can get some nice bounce from a big 'win'...it would be tempting to cut a corner.

But that's not the face he's shown me to this point, so I believe he's a better man than that.
