I know of one turkish patriot with extensive combat experience in this region who's views might not mirror others. Most at WAB know all-too-well the Turkish sense of pride and achievement. We've come to understand the depth of Turkish pain at the Kurdish rebellion within Turkey and the associated acts of terror. We KNOW that both the PUK and KDP carry their own legacy of terror. We also know that they've safely resided behind the borders of Iraq since 1991 and stayed there. Not so with the PKK. For myself, I've come to understand that the KRG offers an opportunity to reverse an endemic condition offering little hope of resolution to either side. It requires much of the Turkish government to meet with men who once were their sworn enemy. The facts, though, say that the Iraqi Kurds have carved out something which is precious and that the never wish to lose. This affords Turkey great leverage when seeking cooperation and accomodation on the part of both the KRG and the Iraqi government. There's a deal to be made here contingent upon the dismantling of the PKK, by force, if necessary. By the Peshmerga if necessary. It will come and sooner than you think if fostered correctly. Turkey and Iraq could snuff this aspiration with the emergence of a healthy and vibrant KRG. Instead of inspiring more like-minded desires among other Kurds, it will attract them and serve as a final redoubt should they be persecuted or unwilling to live by the prevailing laws of their host nations. That's the objective. The happy by-product of this is the increased cross-border trade that should occur in the absence of an on-going insurgency in both nations. It's already the case despite the war and can only grow. Kurdistan understands it's vulnerabilities more so than most. They've been masterful at attaining their dream on a weak hand of cards. And, to date, largely mature in the associated responsibility.
