This guy killed children, women, all his own citizens whom he was supposed to protect. His insane sons raped the country and tortured/killed many more. He got a trial (which most of his victims did not get) and verdict has been carried out.

The fact that he should go is not in question. I'm just scared that if I enjoy watching a bad man die that I might enjoy watching a good man die.

It was probably unwise for him him to be disposed of while he was still front page material.

We should of washed our hands of the matter and thrown him at the Hague. Let the Eurocratic lawyers quibble circuitously over his disposition for the rest of the decade while his alive but out of circulation status was exploited to useful ends.

Removing Mr. Hussein from the theatre in both time and space would have created opportunities to better manipulate the situation in the Middle East.

Death of natural causes in jail is a pretty handy state of affairs. Sometimes it is better to kill a man with due process rather than conclude business with a hatchet job.

Whether or not we have a hatchet job to clean up after remains to be seen but one would tend to think that rushing to see that all of this is transpiring at the start of the Hajj and right on the doorstep of Eid ul Ahda is not the acme of being politically astute.

Regards,

William
You are quite simply AMAZING.

How do you manage to get evry single thought BACKWARDS?

Saddam WAS an asset. But not to us and our cause. He directed the New Baath Party from prison.

I was VERY wise to dispose of him in full view of the entire world. Friends and enemies alike saw him go; he's GONE.

The Hague, William? The same crew that made a total joke out of Slobo's trial, so badly, even, that Slobo ran a successful election campaign from prison. It made him MORE popular! It was a travesty from start to finish, and when Iraq can't take too many more blows, you'd have Saddam's trial conducted in EUROPE, by WHITEY, instead of by the people that were actually victimised by this criminal?

You judgement is bad, champ, but even you

No, wait. I'm sure you really CAN'T grasp why that was exactly the wrong way to go.

If taking him out of the theater was such a grand idea, we really screwed up by not totally blowing the mask off of Iraqi sovreignty, huh? Maybe we should just call the whole place 'AmeriMcWalmartistan', like the lefties say it is, and just come right out and admit we're pulling the strings.

THAT will make an Iraqi want to lay down his life for Halliburton, huh?

Letting Saddam escape his fate through a neglectful, desultory we-don't-really-mean-it crawling forward along a path to a just end that we hope we never reach is cynical in the extreme. That judgement was rendered, the sentence was passed, and a positive act of carrying it out was absolutely essential. Otherwise, there IS NO JUSTICE.

Sir,

I am not complaining about the state of affairs, merely advocating a better sense of timing.

FWIW, I have heard it said that "when the tyrant dies, his rule ends. When the martyr dies, his rule begins".

As to oracles, dead oracles still have a vision for the blind to cling to.

Happy New Year,

William

Perhaps you believe that waiting for the hajj and Eid would be better, but I sure as hell don't. For one thing, these religious zealots that may attach themselves to his cause have a tendency to get 're-blued' every time they go to the Big Ole Revival in the desert. They come out of there ON FIRE for Allah, and with the Arab Street in 'Maximum Seethe' mode, I bet even the Iraqis, who've shown a helluva lot of guts lately, may go shaky, and call off the execution. THEN who would be seen as having the upper hand, the cultural confidence to lead?

Next thing you know, Saddam would be asked his opinion on Iraqi Cabinet appointments.

Nope - go according to the strict letter of the law: the sentence MUST be carried out within 30 days by Iraqi statute, and with a holiday coming up that we don't want the old bastard to mess up or cut into with his death...go NOW.

I wish you had a security clearance, and I'd tell you where that problem lies.
