It's time for me to say goodbye

This forum has tried to drag me back ... but meeting with my RSM this last week, I realized that I am now obsololete. I have nothing more to give you lads. I've always to start from a position of facts. My facts are now wrong. As such, there's no basis of facts that I can eval from.

This is not sad. It was expected. CDF and WAB was expected to surpassed me ... and both have.

Aside from simple stuff, such as scotch tasting, ... and even that, I did enjoy both WAB and CDF ... but time has surpassed me.

I will read you to keep learning stuff ... but my teaching days are now over.

    Please no! :(

In a lot of ways, WAB for me is you, and the views we have shared.

    Col,

Facts may go out of date but wisdom and experience do not. For me, you have been, and continue to be, a respected source of both.

    Colonel,
I for one have been here for some time and have always found your readings both interesting and insightful. You have much experience to teach and to pass on. I doubt you have even scratched the surface yet of that experience. I wish that you would not leave the WAB, I can understand your own reasoning but if you view it from our standpoint it is hardly understandable.

I have enjoyed our conversations greatly. If you decide to go, I wish you the best, but I often feel there is more for you to share both from Professional experience and well as Personal experience.

I would wish maybe a leave of absense if you feel so inclined, that reassures us that we have not lost your value nor insight.

Sir, I wish you the best in whatever your endevores may be.

Would it help if we all decided to become Scotch tasters?

Please stay on as a friend then, your presence here is important to many of us, even if you aren't teaching, and I think it is nonsense that you have nothing to teach. I look forward to every post you give us, you have said it yourself about others who wanted to leave - the words you have given us are precious and have great meaning to us. Please don't take that away.

Sir, its been an honour learning from you for over a decade now. From the days at CMF/TMF which then moved to CDF and Taiwanmilitary.org and then finally to WAB. WAB has changed in many ways since I first came here but you have always been a steady rock in a sea of change.

The facts on the ground today may change due to time and the implementation of new platforms and doctrine but just like Sun Tzu and many before, I believe your insight on many things still remain relevant. We still need to read the past so not to make the same mistakes tomorrow.

You have given so much to the community, its okay to just sit back enjoy the finer things WAB has to offer.

Col, We may be older(of course you are probably wayyyy older than me) but we are not dinosaurs or out of date.

You have much to offer still yet, and I would prefer that this non-com not have to give a commisioned officer the same get-your-gear-on-straight and "soldier up" talk that you would give dutifully to me if the situation was reversed.

I too have laid off a bit from the WAB, but plan not to retire just yet.

I hope that you do not either. Now have a drink and get back on that horse.

Wisdom and experience will never be obsolete, and a few recent facts are no substitute for these two timeless qualities you bring to the WAB.

It would be pretty shitty of us to say goodbye to you just because your teaching days are over.

If you don't like this place anymore and want to leave, that's fine and I wish you all the best.

But if you feel you have to leave because we can't learn from you anymore, well, that's B.S..

We never thought of you only as a teacher

We thought of you as a friend that teaches.

C'mon, Colonel, you can't leave us.

There are certain facts and truths that will always remain true and self evident and one of them is the fact that you have been far more than a teacher and mentor to all of us here, especially myself. You have always been a bastion of cold hard logic and common sense, and despite everything else that may or may not have changed in the world today, we still need you around to make sure that we've got our heads screwed on tight.

Or to put it simply: Please don't go

    Sir,

As someone who has had my disagreements with you on occasion I would argue that you still have contributions to make here. In your areas of specialist knowledge you still have things to say & lessons to teach. If, however, you decide for your own reasons that you can no longer play that role I would ask that you at least continue to stay with us as a friend. Those who retire from teaching do not cease to contribute, even if that takes a different form. I will always think of you as a part of the DNA of WAB. I would rather you maintained some sort of public profile, even if a lower one, rather than becoming some sort of 'ghost in the machine'. Clearly others here feel the same.
