    I would recommend "China Goes to Sea: Maritime Transformation in Comparative Historical Perspective" first, because it deals a great deal about naval development and doctrine, especially how the Chinese Navy viewed the Great Russian Naval debate of "the young school" vs the "old school" You can easily write an essay out of it.
