French COIN Manual FT-01 January 2007
WINNING THE BATTLE/BUILDING PEACE FT-01 (FRANCE)
"The aim of this publication, the fruit of collective thought in the French Army, is to present the main changes that have profoundly affected land forces deployed in a number of theatres. At the very heart of these operations, they reach their full potential in the resolution of crises that have strayed from inter state conflict to invest the field of confrontation in the very midst of society. In this new environment, the French Army asserts and implements a double requirement: that of power and the control of force."
This document is a newly-developed and important doctrinal perspective by an army with a long history of colonial/post-colonial COIN and contingency operations experience. I can't say but possibly a French answer, in short, to FM 3-24. Translated by a staff of British and French officers. FT-01 seems well-organized and will unquestionably offer some interesting reading and provocative thoughts.
I wonder what Galula would say?

I wanted to bump this so our day-time audience might see this interesting document from the French Army.
Thanks.
