I find this to be a very intresting thing to do. Eventhough, it might be difficult.

As I have very little knowledge of the US Civil War and US war of independence, and generally US history before the Great War, I am Looking forward to see some nice suggestions in that area. But please no WWII books.

    Moby Dick

I love this idea yet Moby Dick is a touch time-consuming. The cartoon "Futurama" put it quite well, describing it as a "dense, symbolist tome"

    Well, it is.

Dare I suggest Conrad? "Heart of Darkness" perhaps? MDick could otherwise turn this into the "book of the year" thread.
