We are not going through a civil war, since the state governments are not challenging the constitutional authority of the Union Government. However, the Union Government is unable to do much since the left is pulling their strings. I am not sure about Kerala, but the WB Government has been in power for so long, that they have corrupted all voter lists in WB and there isn't any strong opposition to speak about. Mamata, once a respected figure now seems so deranged that nobody takes her seriously. It is ironic now that Buddha, a staunch CPM guy, now seems to be the best choice for WB

Correct not as of now but then again if

I accept that when I wrote that we might be going towards a Civil War, I didnt meant it quite literally, however, if 2-3 states do the same together and the Union Govt is unable to do anything, its asking for Trouble Big-Time. Not exactly a Civil War but equally disastrous |

Thats precisely the reason, Why there is a Need to give more powers and functioning Autonomy to EC. EC is no gods body and there would always be people slightly less efficient and not as powerfull as Seshan and Gill.
There's a need to develop EC into a more powerfull body so that even when its not being manned by very capable person's it would still do its job effectively. In the Short run, there would be problems, but in the long run it would be worthwhile |

Err Kangress is one of the worst democratically elected parties in the world and will sell themselves for power.
BJP has incompetence on the top and have some right wing groups that spend their time defying law and order in Mumbai and challenging the police to arrest them like a bunch of gangsters. Recent news of Advani not being aware of the Kandahar issue when Singh says he was very much aware spells trouble within the ranks of the BJP. They lack intellect on top. Advani needs to retire. Modi would have been a great chice for the top post of BJP leaving state adventures but he decided to play bad politics with minoriteis in Guj.... oops |

BJP fighting with each other. Commies will remain popular because the unions work for them and unfortunately gap between rich and poor is so high that its easy for any commie to fool the poor and get elected. Since mostly poor vote...... Kangress will probably be back but even weaker. Indian politics.... |

Latest from Elections in Bengal
Seems like the Left were up to their usual game:
1. The local Police OC alleges that CRPf has "beaten him up. Also, the local MP accuses the CRPF DIG of "acting out of jurisdiction. The Hindu : Front Page : Nandigram police official alleges attack by CRPF personnel Government vs CRPF in Nandigram-Kolkata -Cities-The Times of India 2. CPM cadres jamming booths The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) | Bengal | Hours in queue, booth far away 3. Local Police personnel allow CPM cadres to rig ballot; thankfully they are stopped by CRPF detachment The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) | Bengal | Cops out, cadres in Any Central government with some semblence of a spinal cord would back CRPF DIG Raj to the hilt, but I am not that confident of the Madam-Manmohan combo |
