Fali H Major to be next Air Chief
Air Marshal Fali H Major to be new IAF Chief
Two things? *Helicopter Pilot! *The name suggests FH Major is a member of India's august Parsi community, which has contributed so much to India, including Sam Manekshaw. Best wishes to F H Major! outlookindia.com | wired Quote:

Good for secular India.
Another nail in the coffin of those who wail about India's minority's status as also highlights their own dismal treatment of their minorities!

One of the top people at a Bombay based compressor, machinery, AirConditioning firm was...wait for it....
............ sodabottleopenerwala. Some Bohra Muslims also keep similar names- dukanwaala. The profession becomes the person. Some other gents also tend to have picked up English names..sometimes whimsically it appears.. a decorated General, Sikh gent who passed away recently (unless I am mistaken) and was highly decorated, Gen Rajinder Singh Sparrow. I wonder whether it was his unofficial nick which became attached to him, or he chose it himself, or it became part of his name. Confusing. On a funny note, when Madhuri Diksh!t went to the UK, her Brit audience is said to have cracked up, her name translated as bird droppings. A Swedish professor, who visited India, Dr. Lund was surprised at why his name caused merriment. ![]() I can imagine the introduction: Hi Dr Pandey, please meet Dr .... Dr. Pandey struggles to maintain composure. ![]() (For the non Indians- lund is hindi slang for errmm, the male reproductive organ) Last edited by Archer : 02-01-2007 at 09:23 AM. |
