It also has better aerodynamics or whatever,so past 500 meters it beats the .308,i think. They should use it in an assault rifle, see how it does.
Well I did do some research Andrei. The 6.8x39 does not outperform even the 6.8 spc which is currently in use in some spec ops units. It does not outperform the m118lr round for the M21 either. They both may hit at 1000 yds, but the 6.8 does not carry the energy of the 7.62x51.

The term you search for is "ballistics". This is the term we use to refer to the characteristics of a bullet, such as energy, velocity, drop, and coefficients. There are many factors that come into play when choosing a sniper round and the grendel does not qualify IMO. That is another thread however and this one is about assault rifles. The neat thing about the 7.62x51 is that is used linked in the m-60 machinegun and in several combat rifles. A very versatile round indeed. I also understand that the grendel is also limited in mag cap as is the 7.62x51, compared to the 5.56 rounds.

Personally I don't think their is such a thing as THE best assault rifle or firearm for that matter. It would be better if these kinda threads asked "what is your FAVORITE assault rifle.

Good point AE. As I have always contended that the "best" one is the one in your hand. Which coincidentally may not be your favorite.

From what I've read so far, the 6.5 Grendel can fit 25 rounds in a standard 5.56 30-round mag, all it needs is slightly modified feed lips.

However, from my research it does outperform the 6.8 SPC. I'd like to read what you read though, have you got links?

I stand corrected on the 6.8 spc to grendel(musht haff bin dreenking) this is a good comp for ballistics. My only problem with this is, who shoots a 24" barrel anymore? My apologies to all for the error.

The above is not the link I based my statement on. I am having trouble finding the exact one which I thought was much more complete and included other rounds. The search continues.

Has anyone heard about SCAR-L/H? At least a couple of SF groups should be equipped with them now, no?

you know what outperforms a 6.8mm and the 6.5 grendel? A 7.62 NATO. the 6.8mm only exists today because the AR platform is universally in service and you can retain the lowers when you convert to 6.8mm. And let's get a few things straight, the 6.8mm does NOT perform like a 7.62 NATO. The terminal ballistics still fall short, 6.8 is more comparable to the 7.62x39mm that AKs use. An AR-10 weighs about a pound more than an AR-15. You carry about 65-70% the ammo (7.62 NATO) you would if you carried 5.56 NATO but the round hits considerably harder and penetrates through concrete, tree trunks, brick walls, and doesn't deviate it's path through brush unlike a 5.56.

correct, however 7,62 nato isn,t an assult rifle round.

actually it is, unless you are somehow going to argue the FAL, G3 and M14 are not assault rifles. I'm curious to see how you'd reason such a thing.

becouse assult rifle by defenition uses intermidiate cartrige, 7,62nato isn't one.

those rifle you mentioned aren,t true assult rifles, they can be used as assult, but so can 50 .bmg round be used in pistol (and there is a pistol that shots .50), but it doesn,t make it a pistol round.
