My DS in the academy had this habit of asking a cadet (after he had f_edup). "What school do you disgrace?"

And please, let's leave it at that.
No one is asking you to break opsec, but service personnel like to learn about other armies and units. Small things like tradition and unit culture are what we like to learn about, no one is interested in making you betray your nation or army. Unfortunately you have managed to irritate most members on this board - you have displayed poor officer (if you are one) qualities, and I pity the men you command. If you are a soldier, then you are quite arrogant and obnoxious and your attitute is not condusive to the functioning of any "hush hush" unit that you claim to be part of.

Your type of men spend more time in the quarter guard (or what ever your army calls the unit jail), or running in big packs filled with sand being screamed at by his CSM.

War Angel is banned on the grounds of a) on the off chance he's telling the truth he is useless to the forum, b) if he's lying, then...I don't need to finish my sentence, and c) being an ******* who is making his country (a country I love) and its military look retarded.

Good riddance. I didn't believe him; real soldiers generally don't act in a superior manner, expecting everybody else to bow down to him like this guy did.

    ZF,
Smart move. A guy who "can't say anything" about his military role yet chooses the screen name "War Angel" and makes his introduction into a forum on a "who's a real life soldier" thread is worthless to the board.

BTW, I assume your Jewish - are angels big in the Hebrew faith. It's been a long time since I read the bible, and so outside of Satan being a fallen angel, I can't remember where angels appear more frequently - in the Old or New Testaments.

Yeah, I'm Jewish. I've never read the New Testament, but if I were to guess based on the way angels are portrayed in society, I would say the main difference between the angels in the Old and New is that in the Old, angels are purely agents of God. They are concious to a certain extent, but they have no power unless they obey God. In the New, it seems like angels have a lot more independence (given the role of Satan - in the Old Testament, Satan provokes God into doing certain things, but still in His service). So angels are around the in the Old Testament, but they are usually either just doing what God told them to do or acting as messengers to humans.

    Greeting, Gentlemen!

being the FNG here, i'll ask only that ya be gentle, as it's my first time... i ain't too familiar with message boards, and i'll try to avoid gettin' rowdy. i do have a couple thoughts for ya, my 2 cents worth as it were.

first thought is that the subject matter is assault rifles. that being the case, discussions of long range ballistic merits/ demerits is out. assault rifles, by definition, don't need "long range" capabilities. i know the USMC has a fetish for penetrating old steel pots at 800 meters with whatever m16 version is handy, but i just don't find that useful in an assault rifle. my best friend is a former marine, and that particular area provides spirited conversation at times.

that said, i'll also say that i can only speak to the weapons i've had experience with. anything else would be presumption of the chairborne commando variety, and i ain't really up on that either.

M16- a fine weapon. made my bones with it. generally, she's pretty reliable if ya treat her right. if ya don't, she might just stand ya up. i treated mine right, and had no problems.

FN FAL- looks like an assault rifle, but i got my doubts. good for long range work, but i covered that above. can't fault the brits for ordering theirs in semi-auto configuration. beast on full auto. furthermore, and this is extremely subjective, but that weapon just didn't "fit" me. throw my 16 to my shoulder, she's on target, not so for the FN. that might just be me.

G3- kinda blocky. again, a subjective opinion, but it didn't "fit" me. sweet shooter, and reliable, but again, on full auto, she put 'em all over the map. also not much for long range work ( i think i keep on commenting on that 'cause i hear so much about it).

AKM- reliable and handy, but the ballistics of the cartridge leave something to be desired. good for close work. wouldn't trust it much beyond 200 meters or so. miserable accuracy.

ak-74- not to be contentious, but this is my pick of the litter. reliable, handy and deadly up to 300 or 400 meters. on full auto, she just laid on target and purred .i've seen wounds from her that looked like a 50cal was hiding in the neighborhood. i know its a little bitty 5.45mm round, but it's EVIL all the same. i reckon it might raise some eyebrows, but IMHO, it's got the 5.56 beat, especially the ss109. now THERE'S a round i hate. punch straight thru a man, keeps on going, and he does too, neglecting to fall down 'cause he don't know he's dead. i dunno what they was thinkin'. anyhow, first chance i got to get a 74 clone stateside, i ditched a perfectly useful ar-15 and laid hands on 'ol faithful. ain't never looked back. well, not much...

so there it is, my 2 cents worth. like it or not, tear it apart in analysis or not, but if the fecal matter were to hit the rotary oscillator as they say, when the dust settled and the smoke cleared, that's what i'd bet MY life on. as for the other weapons, well, i don't like being on the buisness end of ANY of 'em.

Why no FN F2000? That'd get my vote.

I'm gonna say the G3 because of whats here. Lack of a gas system, ease of disassembly and cleaning, and accuracy of the package make it a stellar assault rifle. You left out the AR-10T A4 Carbine. Its my favorite rifle of all.

I see a lot of angles on Baywatch and I believe another channel where they are called "bunnies".

    LOL...

It ain't on the list, but make mine an M-14 pattern rifle. 14, 21, 25, don't matter. Any will do.
I am kind of curious as to why 7.62 MM NATO caliber rifles were not a choice in the poll. Especially since they are becoming a bit more common ( M-14s anyway ) to see on the battlefields of Iraq. I picked the M-4 only because the shorter barreled variants were not listed. an 11 inch barreled M-16 is a pretty nice compromise between power and size/wieght. Rifles are carried more than they are fired. While I would not feel comfortable engaging a target 200 yards away with a Mini-16 it can be done in a pinch. Many will say "yeah its handy but you are immasculating the cartridge by shooting it out of such a short barrel". That is true, you cannot expect to achieve an expert score with it at 500 meters. But I would'nt engage at that distance anyway with out the support of heavier weapons so the argument is kind of mute. The Army of One mentallity doesn't fly to often in combat. it is rarely an even fight. The down side of the Mini-16 is it is incredibly loud and shooting it at night may make you wonder if its flash hider is even working. I do have a gripe though about the collapsible stocks on these weapons. It pulls beard hair. The last thing you need when trying to place an accurate first shot is the sharp pain of a hair being pulled when it gets caught in between the buffer tube and the stock.. OUCH. I know, I know, just stay shaven ya slob ! Noted.

    Thats my nickel

Shorty M16's would be acceptable for CQB only. I've fired some, and accuracy is abysmal at anything past 200 yards, comparable to that of an MP5. Muzzle blast is also excessive.

    dam you all

Vote the Steyr you b******* its sooooooooooooo much prettier.
Seriously though it really is a nice weapon, very well put together and it works like a charm. Also I must say I am very partial to the whole bulpulp design which makes pretty comfy to use as well. That also makes balance of the weapon better for aiming I think.
they have us surrounded, the poor bastards.
