Ekhm... Terran empire, no offence, but the name itself has noting in common with the weapon features. And, for your information, the name you wrote is the name of the weapon itself given by a manufacturer - FN Herstal. The name of the US military program program was S.O.F. Capable Assault Rifle. But this is only the name of a program, just like M9 pistol program was called PDW and the M16 program was called SCHV, the real name of the 5.56-mm assault rifle is Mk 16 Mod 0 (SCAR-L) and the 7.62 mm battle rifle is Mk 17 Mod 0 (SCAR-H).

Nevertheless, could you explain me what "massive modification" should be introduced to the 5,56-mm Mk 16 Mod 0 assault rifle to convert the weapon to the regular infantry needs? Make sure that you are aware that it will be mass produced weapon for special forces in the USA and the FN Herstal will be offer the SCAR rifle system to everyone would buy it all over the Europe and the World in - let's say 2 years, when the US order will be fulfilled.

You cannot fix the G36, because the real cause of all troubles is the top receiver cut-out for top of the bolt carrier with the cocking handle mounted of it. This feature of the German weapon is responsible of receiver lack of stiffness and the forward braket heat deformation (or mounting point, sorry but I don't know the proper technical English word for the forward point where the transport handle/rail is mounted) in very intensive fire, not the lack of the handguard heat shield. And this problem appears only in short versions of the G36 - G36K and G36C, not in the standard G36 assault rifle, beacuse of different heat distribution (short carbines are heating up very fast).

You're right about that. The full-length G36 has had its overheating handguard issues solved, but the shorter rifles still have the problem.

I have heard some vague complaints that the G-36's stock flex when being fired. Anyone care to comment on that?

Nope. Haven't heard anything about that. The only serious complaints I've heard about it are the overheating handguard (which has been fixed on the full-size rifle) and the tendency for the receiver to expand when heated up by repeated bursts. Apparently, this is not a serious enough problem to keep organizations from using them.

I think that the best assault rifle is the G-36. It's reliable and just overall a good gun. HK makes many good guns.

Maybe you could tell us, Thompson, why your opinion should be worth a damn? In other words, go to the introduction forum, and introduce yourself in detail like all other board members.

The only way the XM8 would have made sense is to move to the 6mm ammo. Otherwise, it's not worth the effort.

for me the best riffle is G3 for open field ,(while in cities i prefer MP5), when in assault no 5.56 will help (5.56 was made to increase the numbers of people involved in taking care of injuries in the field , but when assaulting , a living opponent might shoot you for good , a dead one not). AK47 was for decades the best of all ,been used widely , and it is still in operation . thats why Chechz made "she" m-58 a ''copy '' of AK-47(kalasnikov) , m16 are used to be used by special forces , personally i dont like them , instead of this i would rather prefer a sniper m1-m3 , at least aimed shoots would heet target in red from a much bigger distance . summarizing from those listed i prefer G3

You sound like you have clue what you're talking about.

HK416 would be a much more logical choice, but even that's not really worth it.

I'd say the most logical choice would be those piston conversion kits.

Or just stop ordering new M-4/M-16 and replaced those worn out with HK-416 type piston driven rifles.
